Jefferson FACT 2008 applicants?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hello all,

I just wanted to start a thread for the Jefferson FACT 2008 applicants. First, I want to say that the Jefferson application process is fabulous. Keep in mind that I live in Philadelphia. I submitted the online application last Sunday night and mailed my application materials (i.e. transcripts, recommendations, etc) on Monday. They were signed for by Tuesday, then Wednesday I recieved a notice saying they are still waiting for the materials I sent. I, of course, called Jefferson on Thursday, and they confirmed having my application materials but had not put them in the system. By Friday, I received an email requesting an interview and an attachment in an Excel file listing all my coursework, a breakdown of my overall GPA, Science GPA, and Prerequisite GPA. They also highlighted the courses I had not completed yet. Needless to say, I am impressed with their organization.

Is anyone else applying the Jefferson FACT or even the APW program? Has anyone interviewed for the FACT program? Any advice on the interview or pogram would be great.

There use to be information on the School of Nursing website about that scholarship with Jefferson Health system, but I can't seem to find it any more. Congrats on getting accepted. My interview is next Friday.

Scott

Scott - thanks for the congrats! Good luck on your interview. The woman I interviewed with, Niki, told me that the scholarship information would be available in February so I guess we'll know more then.

Wow... I haven't checked this in a while!! Byrd- CONGRATS!! that's awesome... are you definitely choosing jeff? JC, congrats as well, and I totally feel ya with the financing thing. I'm just taking a look at all that now. I did fill out a FAFSA because the financial aid office basically won't talk to you until you do that. It was pointless though, because I can't get any money/loans out of it. Since its considered an undergraduate program (as opposed to grad) and I'm under 24, I have file as a dependent student...which sucks. Now I'm focusing on low-interest loans from private lenders (if there are any such things!!)

Anne.. good luck with everything!! I was curious about the scholarship too, and noticed that they took it off the website as well. I guess if its coming back like scott said, that will be good. I can't decide if its worth it to commit to two years working as an RN (my real goal is to get the NP degree). But who knows, at this point I might jump at the chance to remain out of debt!!

How about living situations anyone??? I know its kind of early to be deciding, but any ideas? Commuting, on campus, off campus??

Keep me posted guys!! :nuke:

Hold up.. I think a read a few things too fast.. Anne - congrats to you also!! (all I saw was that you were waiting for your interview, but I got that cleared up now!) and thanks letting us know when the scholarship info is coming back on the website.

I'll be there in May as well!

I interviewed back in OCT and thought I was the only one... glad to see a few people coming through. I am excited and nervous at the same time but I'm really excited to start already.

JerseyGirl - thanks for the congrats! I'm so excited to start. As far as living situation. I currently live close to center city - in south philly - within walking distance to Jefferson but there are a lot of available apartments in the city and should be more in May (when students graduate, etc.) I'm not sure about on campus housing but I'm sure that they will have a lot of information about that at the information session which I believe is in February. Niki gave me a date for that during my interview but I cant remember when exactly it will be. Does anyone else know when that will be?

You can apply for on campus housing even before you are accepted. All you have to do is go on the Jefferson website and go to the Student Life/Housing part and complete the application. They said it's gaurenteed as long as you fill it out before a certain date, so why not fill it out now! :)... I plan on living on campus only because I live in DE and it'd be a 1 hour commute (maybe longer!) when I come in and when I leave.

Hi everyone - I've been reading your posts and biting my nails waiting for my FACT interview. I'm so excited because I was just accepted yesterday and cannot wait to start in May!! I also have to begin the lengthy financial aid process. Is anyone here considering applying for the scholarship which requires you to work at Jefferson for two years after graduation?

Congratulations on your acceptance.

I am considering the scholarship, but I have a few questions though about when the committment will begin. For example, I want to go straight thru to the MSN (which I may have to go elsewhere for b/c Jeff doesn't have my specialty). So, I would want to know if you have to begin committment directly after the BSN. Also, do you have the option to complete MSN elsewhere and then return to complete service committment. I am sure that I would get a big "NO" to both questions, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

If I decide to attend Jeff (which I believe I will). I will continue living in NE Philly and commute in. It's only a 20 minute drive, but as you all know PARKING is serious $$$ in Center City. (A big con for Jeff if you're anti-SEPTA like me) However, SEPTA is the most reasonable option. Plus students get discounted SEPTA tokens and transpasses. It's great that Jeff is along the Market-Frankford line.

Alright you guys I am flying out in the morning to go to Philadelphia, so wish me luck. It sounds like it doesn't take very long to hear back as to whether you are offered a spot or not. So hopefully I will hear back soon and can make a decision.

Thanks for the info byrd. Good luck scott! Let us know how it goes... oh and enjoy the city!!
