Jefferson FACT 2008 applicants?

Published

Hello all,

I just wanted to start a thread for the Jefferson FACT 2008 applicants. First, I want to say that the Jefferson application process is fabulous. Keep in mind that I live in Philadelphia. I submitted the online application last Sunday night and mailed my application materials (i.e. transcripts, recommendations, etc) on Monday. They were signed for by Tuesday, then Wednesday I recieved a notice saying they are still waiting for the materials I sent. I, of course, called Jefferson on Thursday, and they confirmed having my application materials but had not put them in the system. By Friday, I received an email requesting an interview and an attachment in an Excel file listing all my coursework, a breakdown of my overall GPA, Science GPA, and Prerequisite GPA. They also highlighted the courses I had not completed yet. Needless to say, I am impressed with their organization.

Is anyone else applying the Jefferson FACT or even the APW program? Has anyone interviewed for the FACT program? Any advice on the interview or pogram would be great.

I have my interview at Jefferson on the 18th of January and I think it is going to be pretty informal. I talked to Danielle on the phone and she seems to be pretty laid back. I asked what the dress code was and she said "casual", so I don't plan on wearing a suite or anything like that. Byrd, did you go to an info session at Columbia? Good luck to you guys.....

SC

Thanks coopsc1. Congratulations on your interview. Mine is in 2 weeks. I wish you luck as well. And no I didn't go to the information session for Columbia. Did you go? If so, were you impressed?

Congratulations Jerseygirl, is TJU your first choice? Are you going to continue into the masters part of the FACT program? If so, what specialty? Byrd, I did go to an info session at Columbia and I think it was somewhat helpful only if you had looked at the website. Some of the people there seemed like they just wandered into the room, not even knowing where they were or what they were there for. I mean some people had great questions and recieved great answers, but then some people asked things that were blatantly on the website. All in all, I am glad that I flew out to NYC (from CO) for the session. I bombed the GRE though, so I don't know how competitive my application will be. Congrats again Jerseygirl...

SC

Both of you- Thanks! Scott- TJU is my first choice, mostly because of the speed of the program (but I also think the curriculum seems very organized and effective)... and yes, I plan to continue onto the masters portion immediately after. The only reason I would take a break after the BSN is if I feel I should improve my clinical skills by working as an RN before moving on. Right now I am interested in the Family NP because I want to work in primary care...but that could all change if perhaps I find I really enjoy another aspect of nursing during the program. How about you?

I guess I should see if I get accepted before I start ratling off my plans! But I think that I would just work afterwards and take some masters classes part-time so that when I did start, the burden would be less. I talked to Danielle about this and she said that it was no problem to take the masters core courses while working. She seems very nice and it sounds like the program is very organized. Congrats again! I will let you know how the interview goes.

SC

Congrats! That was quick, wasn't your interview last week? Awesome! I am flying to Philly next Friday for my interview. How did you dress? I am thinking khakis and a dress shirt?

SC

It was very informal and took about 40 minutes. I knew about the informality from JerseyGrl, but I opted to where a "casual suit." I wore a lightweight grey pant and jacket and collar shirt with a dress coat, because that's how I feel most comfortable (in an interview situation). I made sure not to wear a boring, jet black suit with nude panty hose though. Honestly, khakis and a dress shirt will be a good choice. Wear what you feel comfortable in and can best showcase "you."

Are you flying out to see the school/area or because you couldn't get a phone interview?

I actually talked to Danielle on the phone to schedule an interview, and she never mentioned that a phone interview was an option. Plus, it will be nice to see the school and the area as well. I have only been to Philly once, and that was for a wedding in Wilmington, DE, which was uber ghetto (Wilmington)! Thanks again for the info.

Coopsc1--Thanks for the congratulations. I hope you enjoy the city. Downtown Philly (where Jeff is) should give a good impression. Don't forget to keep us posted.

Hello everyone,

I've been accepted to the FACT program for '08, and am now struggling to find ways to finance it. Can anyone help me to understand what steps to take first and what to expect from FAFSA, TJU, etc.? I have contacted Tim at TJU's financial aid office and he didn't help at all. I don't really know what to do next. Thanks so much!

The FAFSA is the key. You can't and won't get any aid (unless private) if you don't complete the FAFSA. Make sure you have all your financial documents or be able to estimate. You don't have to be precise if you don't have the info. No school expects you to have filed your taxes already.

Hi everyone - I've been reading your posts and biting my nails waiting for my FACT interview. I'm so excited because I was just accepted yesterday and cannot wait to start in May!! I also have to begin the lengthy financial aid process. Is anyone here considering applying for the scholarship which requires you to work at Jefferson for two years after graduation?
