Hey! I thought I would start a thread for all the people that are applying for summer admittance into jeff state so we could get to know our possible future classmates. They're accepting 50 on each campus and with the compass completely gone, and the teas v being solely relied on plus course points of course, I think this will make for a INTERESTING admission process to say the least! Any input and comments are welcomed;-)
hey sorry it took so long for me to get back to you guys but I started last summer at the jefferson campus and had all the teachers you guys will have they are great teachers for clinical there were 3 groups 1 went to st vincent east 1 went to lakeshore and the other went to medical west and fyi the nurses at medical west are mean we started clinicals on july 1st and we only had five clinicals but 1st semester you wont give oral meds just injections good luck guys

That's all right! We know your busy! Question... Did alot of your classmates fail out first semester with it starting in the summer?? And what's like a test schedule for summer? Will we literally have 3 to 4 test a week??!?

Congratulations to everyone for getting in! I'm in first semester right now at the Shelby campus...cannot believe it is almost done. It has flown by! Biggest advice I can give (at least for Shelby students) is READ READ READ your book!!!! I cannot stress this enough. The notes/lectures are NO WHERE near what you need to take the test. On the test they will ask questions that you will only have known the answers to if you read the book. And it won't just be recalling info. You will have to recall what you read and apply it to the situation. Do as many practice questions as you can as well. Also, go through as much of your Calculate with Confidence book as possible before your first day of class. You will be tested on all but one or two chapters of the book if I remember correctly....and I think there are like 25. And they spent one class period teaching this and you can imagine how much got covered. Also, get clarification on rounding. If you already know how to do the math before summer starts that will be one less thing to stress out about. Plus you will have the 90% test for Fundamentals and they also give 3 math tests for Pharmacology and they can really help your grade out. Be prepared to be extremely busy and stressed! But at the same time it is a lot of fun in my opinion. Good luck!

Awe thanks! Question- how hard Is the math test?? I'm scared to death of math!!
To me it wasn't hard, but to some it is. It is very basic algebra...just in a word problem. As long as you know your formulas, you can figure it out. A lot of times they will put info in the questions that you don't need...so you have to figure that out. If you go ahead and use your book now though and practice, practice, practice you should be in good shape. Always know all your conversions and abbreviations too! Those are in the book as well.
I'm applying for the fall...to Lawson and Jeff State. I'd rather go to Jeff State, but the night program is part -time, and I really want full time nights. I'm really nervous about taking my teas V on May 5th, because no schools are saying what you need to make. I've heard in the 70's, but no exact number. If I have a 4.0 on the ADN pre-reqs, and 4.0 overall, what would you think I would need to make on the teas-v to get in? I'm going to Lawson now, so I wouldn't get the bonus residency points, if they count those.
Well you know Lawson has changed their requirements. They are doing some health profession class now that has to be passed to get those 11 points and thats only if u get a A. It's a mini term. U will have 2 test, and a project all in a 5 week frame. And u take the teas 5 test while your in it. Birmingham is taking 15 per mini term and Bessemer is taking 32 for both lpn and rn ( for the health profession class- not ye nursing program) I would seriously consider u to change your mind apply to jeff state especially if u got a 4.0- because esurely you have all A in your sciences. Also completion of that health profession class does NOT gaurentee entrance into the program. So if u didn't get in, that would be time you've wasted.
