Hey everyone! I know this is sort of early, but I am planning on applying for the Fall 2014 nursing program at the Jeff State / Center Point campus! Looking for other Fall hopefuls
Well like I said, I hope you get into the program that you feel is right for you :) for me, I'll have a BSN in 3.5 years going the Jeff state/JSU route, and that's part-time nights and weekends. If you think UAB or Samford are a better fit then I hope you get in and are successful :) either way, good luck! We all want each other to succeed :)
Hey Junebug,I looked into JSU before, I'm pretty sure you need to have completed the associates in nursing before applying. Just wanted to let you know girl :) how long does the n/w program usually take? It said 7 semesters, but can you take classes in the summer to graduate faster?
You do need your ADN first, but all of the prereqs for the program can be taken at Jeff state and they all transfer. The 7 semesters includes summers, so 2 years plus 1 semester :)
So in stalking previous years' boards it looks like the first step will be sending out rejection letters to people with incomplete applications or who don't meet the minimum GPA requirements, then they start looking at the pool of qualified applicants to determine what the cutoff will be, then they notify that group of acceptance/rejection. That's just what I've gleaned from checking out previous boards though, so I could be wrong
I have a subconscious excited nervous thing going on I guess, lol. I actually dreamed I started at Jefferson and at Lawson! Totally weird. I guess those are the two I really want to choose from. So yes I'm excited hoping my email says yes to Jefferson. It will be bitter sweet if I have to go back to Shelby but hey I know what to expect now so I'll take that too!

May I ask why you don't want to go to Shelby? I only ask because that's my top choice :) I hope you get into the program you want though!!!

I never meant any offense when I said it was easier. To clarify, the Asn program requires less coursework to graduate. if you look at the bsn coursework at samford and uab, you are required to take additional classes such as nursing mgmt. Samford requires a capstone project. I strongly feel that when you have less coursework to complete you have more time to focus on your other classes. That's what makes the program more doable. As far as pass rates, if you look at the al BON, Jeff states pass rates for this most recent year are actually less than uab and samford.
