Jeff State Fall 2014 Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone! I know this is sort of early, but I am planning on applying for the Fall 2014 nursing program at the Jeff State / Center Point campus! Looking for other Fall hopefuls :nurse::up:

It only took about 2 weeks, I had 189 points I think. I didn't even calculate them this time, I'm assuming I have the same amount as I did for my Spring App.

Oh wow that was fast! I hope we find out that quickly! If anybody here finds out post do we can all start feverishly checking our email lol

Anybody else being a total spaz and checking their email every few hours "just in case"? Lol

Oh, I am! I turned my application in during April and I've checked it daily since then but I've been checking multiple times a day since Monday. I wish time would start flying by!

I thought they would be Sedona acceptance letters out!! Not emails! Yes, now I will be checking my email frequently

They told me they send both! I asked because we're in the process of moving and didn't want to miss a letter lol. Some previous boards have had people say they actually got phone calls, but the advisor at Shelby just told me to check my email ;)

Hola! I applied with 218 points. This will be my second degree. I'm still waiting to hear from Samford and UAB. I'm torn because I know Jeff state will be the more affordable and probably easier route, but I really would rather get the BSN to help with the job market. UAB is a magnet hospital and will only hire Asn nurses with experience or that have a connection and even then, those nurses need to be enrolled in classes that are working towards there bsn. The nurse manager that I work with loves samford grads so I'm leaning that way...in any case, I still want to get accepted at Jeff state so I can keep my options open. I come from a long line of medical professionals and am super pumped to finally get started with a real career! My bf just recently graduated nursing school and received multiple job offers. He was able to payoff most of his debt and bought a home. He also does Cerner and Epic training thanks to his job so there's definitely money to be made. Definitely a rewarding profession that offers long term stability.

Jeff state is definitely not the "easier" route. It is one of the toughest ADN programs, and had the highest NCLEX pass rates in Alabama, even compared to BSN nursing degrees. I know several who go to UAB, some at Jeff state, some at Wallace, and some at Bevill... And from what I've heard Jeff State is one of the toughest.. But they prepare you very well for the career and NCLEX. My aunt is a nursing professor at UAB and I could have easily gotten in there, but I honestly feel Jeff State is the best option, especially for what you get for the money!

Good luck!!! If you do end up at Jeff State, you can take your BSN prereqs at the same time. JSU has a 1-year online RN to BSN bridge, and they allow you to get paid for your clinicals (UAB does not). That's the path I'm taking so I can get into the job market sooner and spend less overall time in school. I hope you get the program that fits you best though! 218 should be good! The advisor told me that generally scores over 200 are in ;)

Jess is right. Jeff state is definitely not easier lol. From my understanding ADN grade from Jeff state have more clinical experience hours than BSN grads from UAB. I've also heard that outside of UAB, the other hospitals consider Jeff State grads to be the most employable because of the rigorous program and amount of clinical experience they have.

I have heard the exact same thing!

My best friend's mom is a nursing administrator in charge of hiring at a major (not UAB) hospital. She's the one who told me to get my ADN first them do the JSU BSN bridge. I thoroughly trust her decades of experience lol'
