Hey everyone! I know this is sort of early, but I am planning on applying for the Fall 2014 nursing program at the Jeff State / Center Point campus! Looking for other Fall hopefuls
So in stalking previous years' boards it looks like the first step will be sending out rejection letters to people with incomplete applications or who don't meet the minimum GPA requirements, then they start looking at the pool of qualified applicants to determine what the cutoff will be, then they notify that group of acceptance/rejection. That's just what I've gleaned from checking out previous boards though, so I could be wrong
I don't really know how it works, I do know for us it was a quick process 2 1/2 weeks top. One person I was on the forum with last time had more points than I did but my gpa was higher and I actually got in and they didn't. So I don't know, trying not to worry myself though, because although my points are the same my gap is lower than last time because of the nursing courses I just took in spring. Although I meet minimum requirements it's still lower than last time. Crossing my fingers and praying is all I can do
Yeah and their application deadline was about a week earlier than ours!!!! Noooooo! If I had to guess I would bet we won't know until the first week of JulyThen again, it sounds like they were short-staffed that cycle, so maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised :)
I sure hope so! I can't take it! There's so much to do.. Shots, CPR, background check, orientation, getting supplies, etc... You'd think the earlier the better!!
May I ask why you don't want to go to Shelby? I only ask because that's my top choice :) I hope you get into the program you want though!!!
To put it mildly Shelby Day was horrible. Very unorganized, inconsistent, and some of the instructors I'm sure were great nurses but should not be teaching students. Let's just say tthings we learned the last few weeks of class is what should have we learned in the beginning. Like the nursing process! Our pharmacology/dosage cal instructor is an embarrassment to the program. No one told me that Jeff State doesn't teach dosage cal guess I should've researched further because I see that on the old forums. An hour before our fundamentals finals we got an email saying "oh yea restraints and seizures are gonna be on the final read that too". I can't make this stuff up. It was horrible. Maybe fundamentals will be better because I think him being the original teacher of a 4th semester class had Alot to do with it, and health assessment was ok she just never responds to emails or whatever but pharmacology is gonna be rough because she refuses to teach. Start now studying and practicing, set aside funds for a tutor, as soon as you get your syllabus start reading ahead and learning your drugs. And those end of semester hesi exams are now 10% of your grade. It can be done just start now teaching yourself.
All you have to have is a 2.5 GPA. They go strictly by points, as long as you're above a 2.5 GPA. The girl that had higher points but lower GPA must have been missing something, because that's why they have the point system in place now, they used to go just by GPA and it was unfair.
The only time GPA *would* come into play would be (for example) if there were say 15 spots left, and the next 30 applicants all had the exact same number of points, then of those 30, the 15 with the highest GPA would get in like a "tiebreaker" situation (that's what the advisor explained anyway). If your points are very high though you shouldn't worry :)
Hi.. everyone. I'm new here..so this is my first post!I'm super nervous.. I have a high gpa but low points. Do anyone know the cutoff for last year? N/W and the day time program?
What's your points? I think last year day program was high 180's, and I'm not sure about n/w, but it's usually a little but higher than the day program! Good luck!
