Jeff State Fall 2010 hopefuls...

Published

I will go ahead and start this post for people applying to Jeff State Nursing Program Fall 2010. I know there are people out there with questions...I know I have a ton myself...I guess we can start with the amounts of points people are applying with with what classes??This should give us an idea of maybe where the cutoff will be...it was like 186 for Summer 2010!

I have told you mine, but in case you forgot I applied with 190 points. :) I am sorry you didn't get any info. I have decided to quit trying. All it does is frustrate me.

1. I heard about the Probation thing too from someone (about Jeffstate and the probation issue)

2. my points =160. I need to be in the night weekend program and I probably wont get in. I only have 2 science classes left to take.

Yea I am pretty sure the probation thing is true...and just stay positive about your points...you'll get where you're going somehow...there is always an answer...I hope everyone is well!we should know something this week hopefully!

I'm in 3rd semester at Shelby and I haven't heard anything about the probation issue. The only reason they'd go on probation is if they have less than a 75% pass rate on NCLEX, and this past semesters was 100%. That also is why the failure rate is so high. They aren't lying when they say that this is your life. Most of us are up the night before clinicals until 3 am doing paperwork, then we have to be up at 5 to get ready for clinical. Then your entire weekend is spent on clinical paperwork for first and second semester. You have tests pretty much every week with 3-5 chapters minimum of reading. The tests aren't like anything you've ever taken. We started out with around 60 people and now we are down to 24 of our original class and 3 that transferred. It really is survival of the fittest! Just make sure you stay on top of everything and don't wait until the last minute!! Good luck!

thats where Im confused. I mean you can only take so many classes a semester and if you only have nursing left.. you can only fit so many in during the night and weekends.

So I FINALLY got financial aid after paying my way through all the pre-reqs and now I wont be able to take enough class credits to use it.. or I won't get it?

Err.. Im fixin to just go for the AS Nursing vs the AAS Nursing for now I think. I was going to do the one year BS online at Jacksonville state once I passed my NCLEX and became an RN so I would have to have those classes anyways. Better get em while I have the funding.

I've been studying for the Nclex now in hopes that it will help with my nursing courses.

Here's a free website where you can download a whole bunch of books free, including the nclex study books.

Found some of my college books on there too.

So, are you saying that if you have all the co-reqs knocked out then you won't be able to get financial aid even though you are degree seeking? Please tell me that I read you wrong, as this would obviously call for a huge change of plans. Would it be possible to add some online "fluff" classes to become full-time? If so, what is the minimum # of hrs you must take?

Thanks for your time and happy 4th.

In order to receive financial aid you must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. If you have taken all pre-reqs/general courses and only have nursing classes left to take you CAN still receive aid. You can just opt to do the "Alternate Plan", which allows you to take NUR 106C your second semester and NUR 106D your third semester. You can view this on the Jeff State website by going to the RN Admission Requirements and clicking on "RN Associate Degree" and scrolling down to the Alternate Plan. I hope this helps:)

oh it helps ALOT. Thank you.

I thought I had to have 9 credit hours. Whew!

All the same, If I don't get in... I will continue to take the classes I will need at jacksonville as pre-reqs to their 1 year online BS RN plan. That way when I do end up getting in to my nursing classes, and then passing my nclex, I can start right on in the online option.

there is always a work around for everything haha.....I think it costs around $7,000 for the entire 5 semester program...

After its all said and done its a whole lot more than $7000. I'm in 5th semester and its closer to $12,000 and that's just including some of the books, not all. There are a lot of other fees to be paid - drug testing, standardized tests, uniforms, yearly physicals, TB testing, 5 different titers that insurance typically doesn't pay for and then vaccines if those titers come back as non immune. And I know this all seems like a big deal now, but just chill out until you actually get accepted. Then the marathon begins.

So I just talked with a friend who personally called Jeff State on Thursday of last week. She was sick of waiting and decided to go right to the source. She was told no cutoff points had been determined yet and it would probably be another 2 weeks or so before they were determined and letters would go out. I did not ask if she spoke to someone directly related to the nursing program or if she spoke with anyone in the advising office she could get to answer a phone...and that does make a difference.

I appreciate the words of encouragement from the 5th semester person...It does make a difference who you talk to...all the difference in the world too...I couldn't imagine it would take that long for them to get us information...that will be like 1 week after the normal orientation date that we would even get a letter...that's so dumb
