Okay I love LTC I really do but I had this thought just to throw out there.
This is something that I believe I could go for.
Jails and Nursing Homes
Here's the way it should be:
Let's put the seniors in jail and the criminals in nursing homes.
This would correct two things in one motion:
Seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.
They would receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical
treatment, wheel chairs, etc.
They would receive money instead of having to pay it out.
They would have constant video montering, so they would be helped instantly... if they fell or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes.
All meals and snacks would be brought to them.
They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight/fitness room, spiritual counseling, a pool and education...and free admission to in-house concerts by nationally recognized entertainment artists.
Simple clothing - ie. shoes, slippers, pj's - and legal aid would be free, upon request.
There would be private, secure rooms provided for all with an outdoor exercise yard complete with gardens.
Each senior would have a P.C., T.V., phone and radio in their room at no cost.
They would receive daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors to hear any complaints and the ACLU would fight for their rights and protection.
The guards would have a code of conduct to be strictly adhered to, with attorneys available, at no charge to protect the seniors and their families from abuse or neglect.
As for the criminals:
They would receive cold food.
They would be left alone and unsupervised.
They would receive showers once a week.
They would live in tiny rooms, for which they would have to pay $5,000 per month.
Heck yeah I'd love to work in a prison at least if I get spat on or hit or whatever there are guards who will take care of that. Not in LTC. I had a 50 year old 6 foot 8 big man kicking my cna's, I went in there and tried to help and dodged a kick to my head.....I was so angry...I couldn't believe it. So I took out his roomate for safety and I said to my CNA's to leave him alone. Of course I texted my DON that I feared for our safety that even if I had a haldol order there was no way to get to him she responds 3 hours later claiming "oh I didn't hear your messag how is he doing?" Nothing liek "hey how are you doing this is what you should do?" Towards the end I was tempted to call the cops to hold him down so I could give him haldol but I don't think my boss woudl've liked it so I didn't.
My boss SUCKS..........I hope she quits or gets fired in the next six months because she deserves it yellingat employees, threatening them for no reason, making them feel like idiots >>>>>SIGH>>>>>

OMG that happened to me too. I dodged a full on kick to my head from a big strong 55 year old and same thing DON was "OMG I didn't get your message is he okay? never mind if I was okay or my Cna's were okay. Man sometimes I hate LTc nursing
You have every right to call the cops when you are assaulted or battered even in a work situation. Unfortunately, I work in a situation where this occurs more than occasionally. You can press charges against a patient, patients can get restraining orders against other patients, laws apply to all people whether they are at work, at home or on the street. If you work in a nice facility, a couple of cop calls will make the admissions people straighten up. If you work in a less than fancy facility, no one is going to fault you for calling the cops if someone is in danger. Management needs to MANAGE ADMISSIONS, as well as reimbursement.
Okay...in the future..call the DON or keep texting her, in the mean time..call your ADM if the DON insn't getting back to you, call the MD and let them know that this out of control resident is a threat to you and the other residents. We have a procedure called 302. The police will probably need called along with the ambulance. Most police won't hold a person down to let you give a shot. If they are coming in to your facility for an issue like that, they most likely will be leaving with someone.
Do not let this person kick and hit you like that.
