An Entire Discussion could be Devoted to the Many Symptoms of Mental Illness, such as Personality Disorders, of the Characters in The Wizard of Oz.

Take, for Example, the Bullying Talking Trees. They were probably Bullied as Saplings.

The Bullying Behavior needs to be Dealt With at a Young Age, or the Bullied will become the Bully:

Where has the REAL JRRN been?

Interestingly, Farawyn, Jacob and I had a Discussion concerning Ethics this Past Weekend. One of his Adult Psych Patients was refusing Medical Care and Nutrition. Jacob Questioned the Extent we, as Nurses, could Involve ourselves.

Basically, I reassured him that when he had Performed his Duties to the Fullest Extent of his Responsibility, that was all he could do. The Patient was their own Guardian, So to Speak, and had the Right to Refuse any Care. Until Further Measures were taken, by Law, nothing else could be done.

I believe Jacob wanted to do more, and used me as a Resource in Gathering Data in his Problem-Solving Process.

Feeding tube? Or refusing to eat?

Thanks for your Interest, Farawyn, but I Intentionally leave out as much Identifying Information as Possible.

Oh ha ha ha ha!

Well, steph (corrected your typo);) and Farawyn, just let me Tell you The Story AND The Reason for Jacob Rockstar-RN Psych Nurse Action Figure!

Once upon a time...

Well, in your cartoon you mention wanting to keep this about mental illness so I'm going to mention the book I've been reading (even though I've mentioned it a few times already).

Weekends at Bellevue by Julie Holland M.D.

A very insightful look at what happens inside a mental health ER.

She is the author of Moody *******: The Truth About the Drugs You're Taking, the Sleep You're Missing, the Sex You're Not Having, and What's Really Making You Crazy and Weekends at Bellevue: Nine Years on the Night Shift at the Psych ER, a memoir documenting her experience as the weekend head of the psychiatric emergency room at Bellevue.

Last night's chapter had her excited about being able to do some intervention on a frequent flyer who came in on MDMA instead of PCP. (MDMA used to be used by psych folks to get patients calm enough to listen to reason!). ;)

Y'all live in a different world. Very interesting.

Oh yes. A different universe. My Psych teacher in nursing school, for whatever reason, loathed me. I think it might have been because I was old enough to be her Daddy and she had some Daddy issues - whatever - I soon learned the course textbook was as useful as the proverbial screen door on a submarine. I took meticulous notes on her professations (is that a real word?) and oddball opinions and stored that data away for the exams. Stopped opening the textbook all together. I made a 75 in the class; minimum required grade to pass. She should have been in some kind of psych treatment. I was scared away from psych for life; but my volleyball skills did improve during clinicals.

Davey, your credentials seem to have grown a bit. :roflmao: Looks like alphabet soup.

(I would add to mine, but alas, "BFD" isn't a choice on AN.)

Yes, I could sooner decipher the Chinese alphabet as that line of certs.

Dawww. They are legit!

The one cert I really want is VT.

I heard they are bettern nurses!

Did she analyze your need to wear a red, long sleeve 100% cotton crew neck t-shirt every day? :bag:

I have a BA in Psych.

My Psych Profs were a bit odd, but no odder than my Nursing Profs.

The male Psych Profs were all older than me and they, for whatever reason, loved me.

(They probably had "Daddy issues".)
