I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?
Hello everyone! I went to the campus today and turned in a loan application. Good thing I called about my aid because I had no idea that I had to fill out that form. So I turned in my papers to nursing, paid for the criminal background check and turned app to FA. When I got home I had an email stating that I need to fill out other forms which were online:typing. So I hope NOW that my financial aid will get in order. As do a lot of people, I need money for books and etc:eek:. Good luck to others:rolleyes:. I hope my reply helped some others that didn't know about these FORMS!!
Take care and God bless.
Forms?? I have called like 3 separate times in the past week and they haven't told me about any forms...I am going to be extremely ****** off if that's the case! I have class next Monday, and they already told me that if I hadn't heard anything by then, then to call. So I will just stop in!
LOL @ p*ss*d off being ***d out!
I got my pell award info last week.
I turned in my loan app on Monday, and today I seen it went through.
I also got the email about the forms to fill out online. But, I had already been poking around and seen that I needed to approve some stuff. Took the pre counseling for the loan. So I think I am done. I hope so.
Although my state award is still not showing up on CC. I only seen it on Estudent.
Is this the same for others or is your CC account showing your state along with your federal awards?
I so want to get my books!!! I'm hoping Monday or Tuesday I will be able to go get them.
My 13 yod asked why I was so anxious to get my books. LOL! I guess somewhere along the way I turned into a geek. :)
Another glitch is that my fundamental lab is still not showing up. My other 4 classes I am taking show up, but not the lab. So I called and left a message about that.
Seems that nothing ever runs smoothly!
Where would you look to see if you need to approve anything else? I feel like I have navigated that darn website way too many times in the past week! I know you have to do the entrance thing again for loans...it would just be nice if they could get on the ball.
Off topic- but does anyone have any opinions on interpersonal communications? I am planning on doing that rather than speech (public speaking)...do you still give speeches? Can anyone give me some info?

Go to CC... then online student services..select fall term...select to see your financial aid ... then Financial Aid Status.. select aid year... on the next screen if it says UNSATISFIED student requirements click on it... the next screen will open up and tell u what all needs to be done.. you should have completed Authorize FA to Pay Charges other than Tuition and Fees Authorize FA to Pay Prior Year Charges
Entrance Counseling and
FAFSA
at the top of my page it tells me that application is received and reviewed pending. Hope this helps...
On the other note... I am taking Interpersonal Comm. I tried to take public speaking last semester... stopped taking it... the teacher had no clue what was going on... I don't know where he passed to become an instructor. I am at Terre Haute. R U there? I am taking it Comm102 80G (CRN-4492)... I hope it is better than the other one! I would like to find out if it has speeches too.
My other complaint... with FA... at iupui, you receive refund aid BEFORE classes start. I do NOT understand why Ivy Tech can't do the same. It makes it very difficult to prepare for classes. I feel like I already start the semester behind in my studies. I just think they could handle it a little more efficiently!
Hope this helps everyone! Take care and god bless!
I found it on cc's online student services under fin. aid>fin. aid status>student requirements.
I took Interpersonal last semester. I liked it a lot. I think it really relates to nursing. It was a fairly easy class and I took it online.
Although I will still have to take public speaking when I go on to get my BSN. It is a requirement. So It is just bonus credits for me.
I plan on taking public speaking after I graduate ASN before I go BSN bridge. So I can take it and my math (req. for BSN) by themselves since those are the ones that will be very stressful for me.
Nurse pebbles, my FA has always been applied to my account at IT before classes began. Then refunded the remainder after about 6 weeks.
This year has been a mess though. I'm not trying to make excuses for IT but I know they are changing the way they do FA, I take it that it is not their choice, but they are working on getting the kinks out.
I can say I have never had such confusion in the past at least with my campus.
And you didn't bother me:) I was just commenting on what my experience has been in the past.
And there are no speeches in Com 101, and the papers were easy and 3 of them were over movies.
That should say no speeches in 102 above
More on Comm 102
We did 5 papers total. The 3 papers on movies were only about 1 1/2 pgs. in length.
The 1st one I did on Dances with Wolves, 2nd one Jerry McGuire, 3rd one the Notebook. My teacher gave us a choice of two different movies. We also did a paper on intercultural experience. I think it was only a page and half too. Last we did a paper summing up how the class would help us in our chosen profession. I think it was 1500 words.
There were open book quizzes online and discussion boards that also counted for points towards the grade.
I ended up with more points than I needed for the class to get an A because of extra credit.
Very light reading, an easy class.
I mostly took it because I am terrified to speak in public. I felt like I just couldn't deal with the stress of ANP 2 and speech at the same time.
Even though I will eventually have to take Comm 101 for BSN, I'm glad I took 102 because like I said it is all skills that everyone should possess especially nurses.
I believe the whole mess with FA refunds at Ivy Tech is because people will sign up for classes, get aid awarded to them and then never show up or drop. If they already recieved their refund, then all of that money is then basically lost, and it has to go to collections, costing the school/state/government more money to recover the loss. In the meantime, when that happens there is less money to go around for the people that genuinely need it for their classes.
I don't agree in the least with the way they do the student loans. The way I see it is that is OUR money that we will be paying back with interest. It really shouldn't be any business of the school how much we get or how we spend it. I think the loan should come directly to students and not go to the school at all. Why should they get to hang on to our money and decide when they will turn it over to us? I can understand why they do that with grants/scholarships, but loans?
K....I'm getting off my soapbox now. LOL
NursePebbles, well so far whenever I have been there in the past (which means every day the past 3 weeks!) it says all my student requirements have been satisfied, however I have never seen anything like authoriza FA to pay charges or anything like that...do you have to do that every year?
Wishn- thanks for the info on com 102. I am TERRIFIED of speaking in front of a class. I normally don't even raise my hand or offer to answer questions! My face gets all red etc. When its one on one or on on a few people (as you would probably have in nursing) I feel its easier...you have SOME sort of bond with them. I am hoping I will like that class. When my mom was in nursing school back in the early 90s she HAD to take speech and she absolutely hated it. She is the shyest person you will ever meet! Me? I never shut up haha.
Indymom- I think I have said this before, but I completely agree. It ticks me off to no end that they decide when the money is disbursed. I applied for an emergency loan to come out of my student loan before the disbursement date in June and they denied it. My reason- my car needed a LOT of repairs done and if it were to break down I obviously couldn't go to school, take Rylan to daycare, or even go to work. I wish they could just direct deposit it!!
