Ivy Tech Spring 2020 Hopefuls

Published

I know we still have some time but I imagine a majority of us are taking or have taken the TEAS and are getting ready to get ready for the Spring 2020 application period !! Just thought I could give us a spot to chat, I know I have used the older threads from other years to help me prepare as well!

I take my TEAS (first time) Monday! What is everyone else up to?!

So how is everyone feeling now??? I'm honestly not sure if I'm ready for all the things that are happening. SO many changes just within one week ?

I’m so stressed , we just finished our first 8 weeks of the LPN program and I was so excited to start the first round of clinicals but now that they are virtual it’s kind of a bummer cause I was so excited . This is all so stressful cause our professors can’t give us definite answers because things are changing so much every day ?

Waouhhh that score is very competitive. How did you increase your score please. I have a total of 134.7/160 points. I got a 74.7% on my TEAS first attempt. Do you think my score is enough to put me into the program or maybe I should consider taking the TEAS again. Did you try with you previous score before you increased it or you just decided to increase it then apply.
thanks for your help

I only took the TEAS test once and got an 88, but since Ivy Tech puts weights on things, it ended up being an 87 out of 100. I got A's in my classes, so I ended up applying with a 147. Truthfully, any score of a 130 or above seems really competitive. Some locations sound like they were more competitive than others, such as Lawrence, so it kind of depends on what location(s) you are applying to. Some people were posting that they were accepted Into the RN program at certain locations with a score around 116. What locations are you planning on applying to? I would say your 134.7 would be high enough to get you into the RN program at quite a few of the locations, but just keep in mind that the fall semester might have more applicants. If you are planning on applying to a more competitive location, and you don't mind driving to other locations, I would put more than one choice. I hope this helps!

I'm at Terre haute and we are going virtual for clinicals.. we will be doing virtual simulations, case studies ect but IDK how long this will go on? I haven’t gotten any updates on skills lab! I hope everything goes back to normal for Summer courses! ?

I am currently applying for the Sellersburg nursing program, I have all As for the prerequisites and am going to take the TEAS on May 5, have gotten a low score on the practice scores I've taken which would put my score to about a 130/160, but hoping for some encouragement

I'm not 100% about how competitive sellersburg is or how many seats they have but I do know USUALLY 130s is a comfortable place to be!! Are you taking the ATI practice ones though ??? I have heard those are usually a bit harder than what the actual TEAS is.

O that makes me feel better because I’m cramming almost. There’s like 40 seats and I’m like is that enough?

I have heard you get an extra 5 points if you have your CNA. I honestly don't think they will outright say what a good score to try for is but I am aiming for 130. I highly suggest joining the Indiana Community College Nursing Program page on facebook. Each semester when people are applying they post their score and it is a good way to compare how your score will hold up. Personally, I think you have a great score and I wouldn't worry at all about the extra 5 points from the CNA because most people have trouble just getting their score to 130. The facebook page has past scores from people and what program they were accepted into under the files. These are the scores for the past 3 years for East central Indiana that have been posted, it includes Anderson, Marion, New Castle, and Muncie.

Spring 2019

130.7/160 ASN Anderson Accepted

121.81 New Castle ASN-Accepted

135.42 (Anderson ASN) Accepted

Spring 2018

130.7/160 ASN Anderson Accepted

81.81% 121.81 New Castle ASN-Accepted

86% 135.42 (Anderson ASN) Accepted

2017

133.74/160 (ASN) Accepted

114.7/160 (ASN)

136.2/160 (ASN)

140.9/160 (ASN)

138.8/160 (ASN) Accepted

134.3 (ASN)

137/160 (ASN)

128.8/160 (ASN) Accepted

123.23/160 (ASN) Accepted

146.58/160 (ASN) Accepted

Hope this helps!

Hey guys I am very nervous!! This help but do you have any overall scores for the LPN program?? That’s what I am applying for and I don’t know how competitive the lpn program is. Please anyone help. Thank you

Hey everybody!  It has literally been a lifetime since we were all nursing school hopefuls.  Hopefully everybody is still on course and doing well!  Next semester is my last semester before graduation.  One semester before I am an RN!  We have a 4 week break due to the holidays before class starts back up and I am wanting to start studying for complex med surg.  I am just not sure what content to focus on.

Would love to hear how you guys are doing and your plans for next semester!

Holy cow!  I haven't been on here since the beginning of the program.  LMAY, we are in the same program!  Duh! LOL!  I can't believe I didn't realize that until now! ?

That's awesome! So exciting!! I am headed into semester #3 but looking forward to it! Did you take a Summer semester?! How have things been at your campus with Covid? We have been all virtual except clinicals. Curious to see what this semester will look like (no final word yet) So happy that everyone is successful so far and continuing to move forward!! Best of luck to you, it's crazy to think we are almost there after all of THIS craziness too!

That's great!  I'm glad to hear you are doing well too!!
We too have been virtual this whole time and have only had the chance to do two of our clinicals in person.  We were supposed to go back to on campus classes next semester, but when covid flared up again they switched it to virtual.  We are still supposed to be able to go to clinicals next semester so that's a plus.  Have you enjoyed your clinicals?  I have had a blast being in the hospital working!

We did have a Summer semester.  It's been pretty hectic.  I don't know how people can work, even part time, and still manage to have enough time for all the content.  It really has flown by though.  I can't believe we are almost at the end!!  Have you thought about where you would like to work?
Best of luck to you as well!!

LOL! Funny! Yep, we have been going through this journey together! Good luck with studying in advance for complex med surg. I feel drained from this past semester and haven't even thought about studying. I keep telling myself that we have 16 weeks left, after we get back from break.

That's awesome you guys!!

I forgot that some campuses did the Summer term! I'm kind of jealous, it must feel SO good to be that close!!

@clintonjohnson13 that sucks!! We had the second half of semester 1 as virtual, then semester 2 we were on site, I LOOOOOVE the hospital SO much! I finally started to feel like I was doing nurse things and not ALL patient care. Which I don't mind at all but trying to get out of that and being used to the nurse stuff was something else. I just had my FIRST injection on a person in our last day last week LOL I'm not sure how next semester will go. I do not expect to be able to go to OB clinicals on site, I completely understand that too though. I do hope we get a chance at mental health though.

I'm so excited for you guys!! Do let me know how your last semester goes and any advice for Med surg 3. I'm sooooooo worried about that class even though med surg 2 went MUCH better for me than 1 haha

@LMAY I feeeeeel you girl. I think I'm going to do some reading for our next semester but I don't want to do anything else but be lazy haha and clean my house that was neglected ??
