Ivy Tech Spring '10 Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

It's nice to meet you....whoever you are....

I'm hoping to apply for the spring for the RN program, but I'm nervous just thinking ahead about it how fast it's going to come up.

I've got all As for my pre-reqs, excepting that I'm taking both A&Ps over the summer. I've not taken TEAS yet, and I don't know when I'll be doing that since I live in Cleveland, OH. I guess I'll be taking a little trip sometime in August or sooner.

Hi all,

I'm planning to take online APHY 101 this coming fall, however; I'm hearing all the horror stories about online APHY 101 classes and they said it's almost impossible to get A's! :( ...I'm a little bit nervous as I've been out of school for 10 years so my mind isn't as sharp as those in their 20's..lol..

If you have taken online APHY 101, PLEASE share your input. How did you do? Did you do well? How about labs & tests & quizzes? Which campus/professor (initials if you want) did you take? I believe a good professor can help you succeed if you try hard....as I've also heard many stories about those online professors never responds to emails/questions :(

I took both 101 and 102 online last year, got As in both. Pretty much it involves reading the entire textbook and self-teaching; the labs might have changed by now but when I took it, the labs involved online simulations and at-home activities. There are weekly quizzes at home, a weekly discussion board to post on a given topic, and four exams over the semester. When I took 101, the first exam and the final exam were proctored at an Ivy Tech campus; the midterm and third exam were at home. I think that now maybe it's the midterm and final that are proctored. In any case, when I took it, the at-home exams were actually harder than the proctored even though you had the book right there in front of you.

I felt very prepared for in-person APHY 201 which I took last fall. That said I know a lot of people have trouble with online APHY classes. It all depends on what type of learner you are. If the thought of reading an entire textbook to learn the material (101 and 102 cover the whole book) does not sound like a way you would do well with, and/or if you need to hear a lecture to have the material really gel, then maybe it isn't for you. However if you are good at self-directed reading and can learn a lot that way, then you'll do fine. There definitely is no one-size-fits-all, for any kind of class be it online or in person.

As far as professors, my 101 prof was great; my 102 prof was not. It all depends of course. My 101 prof was very attentive and gave excellent answers to questions; but a friend of mine had a 102 prof that was great at responding to questions, but really only regurgitated book information back to her so it didn't really help. The prof I had for 102 did not respond to messages hardly at all. I can't post names here (and I don't think they want us to post initials either) so if you want me to PM names, let me know here.

csab..sorry i've been super busy these past few days & totally forgot about the post...I tried to PM you but I have no idea how!... I think it's because I don't have that many posts????? So you took APHY 101 &102 online and aced both? You must be very disciplined to yourself! Argh..i want to PM you but I have no clue how

BTW you said "I took both 101 and 102 online last year, got As in both" & "I felt very prepared for in-person APHY 201 which I took last fall. " ...you mean you took 102 twice ??

No, as I said I took 201 in the fall in person, not 102 again. LOL

LOL...oops...

why do u need to take APHY 201 as it's not 1 of the prereqs ?

tnbutterfly, ahh thanks for the info

thanks csab for the info! ..I can't even reply back to the PM...lol :D guess I'll have to "spam" this forum until i reach 15 posts

LOL yeah just keep making posts to say hello or something.

I took 201 because it is one of the co-req options for the nursing program. You have to pick (2) classes out of this group: Aphy 201, either Biol (micro) 201 or 211, either Chem 101 or 111, and Physics.

ahh i see

I've already registered for APHY 101 online from Columbus campus (i live in indianapolis) ..the professor is TBA arghh..hopefully someone cool :) Some people said online APHY classes are impossible to get A's... kinda make me nervous...i mean i've been out of school for 10 yrs already... i'll just have to try really really really hard

It's not impossible. I had been out of school for 17 yrs!

Vinagal - I've been out of school for 15 years and I can tell you that it IS possible. You really have to buckle down, read, and study hard. Also, look for pictures of models online if you can. They help a lot visually with muscles, bones, etc. I started a blog about my nursing journey and I plan to put some powerpoints and links to sites that have these models on them. I didn't realize how helpful the models were until taking 102 f2f.

I took 101 last semester and didn't get the grade that I felt was competitive and I'm retaking it this semester. I'm doing much better this time around because I've figured out the best way for me to study. That's really important! My course is through Terre Haute and I love the instructor; she answers messages promptly and gives feedback. I definitely suggest taking her if you can. All tests/quizzes are non-proctored except the midterm and final.

I don't know if you can receive PMs or not with the 15 message limit, but if you want, I'll message you her name. Good luck!

csab - I would never believe that you've been out of school that long; you certainly don't look like it! :yeah:
