This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

It's nice to meet you....whoever you are....

I just looked up some information about vaccinations and wanted to share. I was wrong in my earlier post, I do need a TB test. Apparently you have to have had one w/n 6 months. I thought the one I had done in 2008 would have been recent enough.

There appear to be small clinics now at CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, and Walmart. Walmart doesn't have their prices posted. In accordance with their other prices, I think they might be competitive, but I'll have to call to see. Meijer might also have clinics or be in the process of establishing/opening them, but I'm not sure about that. I do know that it might be a good thing to look into because I've had a couple of NP's tell me you can get common antibiotics at Meijer for free with a prescription.

Out of all three stores with posted prices, Kroger appears to be the cheapest with respect to TB tests, offering them at $18. They also offer what they call school physicals for $29, but what you all might have to have is a pre-employment physical, which is listed at $45. I thought that was strange. I wasn't aware that these clinics gave physicals, but I guess it makes sense since they have NPs working there.

With respect to immunizations, CVS appears to be the cheapest, much to my surprise.

All of this is relatively irrelevant though, because the health department appears to be the best bet by a long shot.

Hopefully LabCorp or someone else can do chicken pox titers inexpensively. The chicken pox vaccine is listed on Walgreens website: it's a 2 dose vaccine at $136.99/dose. :(

The question is whether the health dept. for Hamilton county will give shots to people over 18. I did find that page that said 0-18, but maybe they make exceptions for health care personnel or students?

TB at the health department is only $10.

Could someone from Indy remind me what we are supposed to do for the criminal background check? I remember them saying something about emailing them and then coming into the nursing office to pick up a form before going to the LabCorp site...but to be honest I completely forgot what the instructions were

thanks!

You need to make an account at https://www.certifiedbackground.com Indy Ivy's code is IV66. It will walk you through the process.

Make sure that you print out the Confirmation page that displays after you've paid with your credit card. That is what the girl in the nursing office took from me, not the email.

I called several different people today and I wanted to let anyone who was interested know what I found out.

First of all, Hamilton County Health Department said that they do not administer immunizations to adults, only children. They directed me to the Marion County Health Department.

The first person I spoke with at the Marion County Health Department (MCHD) seemed to really know what she was talking about. She said that the Hep B vaccine is $35/dose, but if you're a student, all other vaccinations fall under a one time $10 administration fee. That includes the chicken pox vaccine and the TB test, which may require more than one visit (chicken pox is a series of two shots; you all have said that you need two TB tests). She said that the Hep B vaccine is the only vaccine not offered at a discounted rate. She also said to bring an acceptance letter and something indicating that the shots and/or tests were required by the school to receive the student rate. The second person I talked to did not seem as knowledgeable about pricing. She said that since the clinic was closed she couldn't tell me if the discount I just mentioned was valid or how one might qualify.

Also, I spoke to someone at IUPUI/IUSON and a family record of having had chicken pox is sufficient. She said they were well aware that most people do not have medical records indicating that they've had the disease. They just need to know at least the age at which you had chicken pox. I would check with Ivy Tech. Maybe that have similar expectations?

Lastly, I called LabCorp and they will do a chicken pox titer. The cost of the titer is $89, but they will only draw blood if you have a "prescription" from a doctor and the doctor's office must have an account with LabCorp.

I have the phone numbers for all of these places as well as the hours for the Marion County Health Department on Michigan if anyone needs them.

I'm thinking maybe I should call back the first person in MCHD I talked to and ask her about the discount Carlos was referring to, to see if it applies to the Hep B vaccine. She did say that prices, etc. may vary by county.

Hopefully this was helpful to someone.

Well tomorrow we finally get to have our orientation/registration at the Gary campus. It seemed like the wait has been forever, between gettting the acceptance letter and now. I'm like alot of you trying to get as much done as I can because I don't want to wait until the last minute to get things done. I got my CPR class done Saturday, I think I'm going to the health department to get my TB test done. I'll just wait for my apppointment with my family physician before I get anything else done. So much to do, and sometimes it feels like its not enough time. I hope everyone is doing well!

well, it's officially been two weeks and i still don't have a schedule. i'm afraid to go to the nursing office to ask because they always get so annoyed by questions...

I can hardly wait until orientation/registration tomorrow! I'm so excited!

Hello! Well..I just got my physical today and my first TB test. I also paid for my background check--it was $200 I think by now. Anyways..okay--on my shot record I only have one date for my Hep B--but I do not know if I had the complete round or not. The board of health does not have that info either--should I just get the titer? If so how much are they running. Oh--and one more thing---I STILL DON'T HAVE A SCHEDULE!!!! I am going crazy..I have to schedule for a sitter and I have no clue what my schedule will be. I am at Madison by the way:) I also missed the info sessions because I was an alternate..so if anyone was at Madison shoot me some info
