I've gotta figure out a way to lose weight while in nursing school

Published

I am looking for advice about weight loss programs, weight loss ideas, meal & snack ideas...basically anything you can offer that will help me as I try to get started on losing some weight. I will be finished with nursing school in the spring (about 8 months away), and would love to be a lot smaller at my graduation!!!

Thanks for your help!!!

I lost 70 pounds on the "Body for Life" program. You can pick the book up anywhere....find it on Amazon used for a couple bucks. The truth is you have to eat right and exercise to get where you want to be BUT all of the programs work differently. I like Body for Life because you exercise and eat right throughout the week but you choose one day a week to do whatever you want. When I started the program I was a waitress in a "mom and pop" diner with the best biscuits and gravy you could ever imagine! One day a week I ate ANYTHING I wanted to and did not exercise and still lost weight quickly. The catch...you have to stick to the program! No cheating midweek, etc. I hate conventional dieting because there is no room for mistakes, but with this program there are no mistakes. If you follow it correctly, one day a week you can do whatever you want...and trust me I looked forward to that day many a time

It was years ago but in nursing school, when we had breaks, I walked around campus rather than eat a snack. I remember being pretty happy cuz I did lose a few pounds and didn't gain even though I did eat junk more often than I should have.

Good Luck!

I let myself eat junk food on exam days and those only come every 2 weeks. And I start out every day with miniwheats or some equally fibrous breakfast, which really helps when I can't eat lunch until 8 hours into a clinical shift.

eat less and do more. have healthier choices in food- gradually, and exercise everyday. more muscle mass means more fat-burning so shape up! ;)

yeah, the only thing that has ever worked for me is diet and exercise. i weighed 165 three months after having my daughter. i dropped down to 141 just by eating better and running (a lot). i try to burn between 500-650 calories each time i do it. in nursing school though, i have only been able to run on the weekends (i work at a hotel on the weekends and am able to use their gym for free)

hopefully i can keep the weight off!
