Ive been accepted into 2 LPN programs

I've been accepted into 2 LPN programs in Michigan

Dorsey and Everest

Dorsey tuition is about 26,000

Everest tuition is about 15,000

I know because of the cost everyone would say Everest, but I keep hearing rumors about them closing because of accreditation issues. Just like ITT Tech! They are both very good programs and both are 5 days a week for 4 hours. Can anybody give me any advice on making a decision. Has anyone heard anything about these schools? I would really appreciate any input.

    I don't know anything about either of those two schools, but if I were you I'd look more closely into the accreditation issues. You don't want to waste any money on a program that might not lead to your being eligible to sit the NCLEX PN.

    In general, you'll want to minimize your student debt. Paying it back is a (bad word for female dog). And if you decide to continue to an RN program, you'll be taking on more debt, making it even more difficult to pay back.

    The Everest school at the end of my block closed more than a year ago. The other school is way expensive for just an LPN program. Don't you have any community college programs nearby where you can pursue a degree while at the same time saving money on a reputable program? Or, in lieu of that, a program run by a Regional Occupational Center, or some other adult jobs center? The for profit schools generally don't deliver a very good education if they stay open long enough for the student to finish.

    For the amount Dorsey charges, you could complete an RN program at a community college. That is way too expensive for an LPN program. Everest's LPN program does not have any nationally recognized accreditation. I'd be leery of them. I would seriously consider going to a community college and getting your RN. Why limit yourself with the LPN and take on the same (if not more) debt?

    Did you think about applying at other programs? With Everest, the parent company had a lot of schools close and is in financial trouble. Don't go there. You will just end up like me, a displaced ITT student. Secondly, these programs more than likely will not let you transfer credits if you want to complete a bridge programs. I am starting Davenport nursing classes in Sept. Have you applied there or any other accredited institution? Your two choices will leave you more than likely with a piece of paper and no one to hire you.
