Ms Flash is ordered 2mg of metoprolol. You dilute Metoprolol 5mg/5ml to a total of 20ml.

John Johns has a frusemide infusion running continuously. You make up the infusion to 500mg in a 50ml syringe.

How many mg/ml will your solution provide?

The doctor requests you run the infusion at 2mg/hr. How many ml/hr will you set the pump?

I just did these in my head...which part is tripping you up? Show us how you set up the problems, and then we can see where you went wrong

Just a tip: from the problems you provided, the amount of solute stays unchanged, only the volume of the solution increases.

Play , old tell me I'm on the right track!

Okay well...you are a bit of a mess but that's okay. You'll get this, I promise. Let's start here.

-you have 5mg of medication diluted in 20mls of fluid.

-how many mg of med in each ml? Hint: this is simple division.

Once you figure this out let us know and we'll go to part two.

And just so you don't get discouraged this step is the foundation for the rest of the problems.

Mrs Ling is ordered 2.5mg IV Morphine. You dilute 10mg/ml to a total of 10ml

You dilute 10 mg/mL to 10 mL, which means you have 10 mg of medication in 10 mL of solution. Therefore, you have 10 mg/10 mL = 1 mg/1 mL. The ordered dose is 2.5 mg, which means you will need to draw 2.5 mL of the solution.

I AM trying to guide you but I won't do your work for you and neither should anyone else. Otherwise you won't learn anything. Look at my last post and see if you can figure out the answer.

I'm not quite sure how to work this out !

You already know that your concentration is 10mg/ml. You only want 2 mg so you know the amount is going to be less than 1ml. Have you learned how to set up the equation for this?

The formula for rate is volume/ time. So 10mg/ml / 2mg/hr 0.2 is that correct?
