I found a program with brightwood-vista for $175, downfall is they want me to commit to 6 Saturdays and Sundays. Other programs are much more exspensive but you bang it out in 3 days-12hrs. Can anyone give me suggestions on where you went for your program. Brightwood course is in vista,ca.

please tell me you are joking about paying to learn how to start iv's and draw blood. That is something you will learn on the job.

LVNs in CA must take a course and become certified in order to do these tasks. It is considered par for the course for RNs.

I wish I was joking and the fact that I am a certified phlebotomist doesn't meet the requirements.

A waste for many people, definitely wasted time and money for a phlebotomist.

I paid for my IV cert when trying to get my foot in the door as a new grad. And it looked good on my resume, plus I didn't have to take any IV tests like the other new hires since the place I went to gave me a certificate, so it was proof enough that I was IV certified. So I wouldn't call it a waste, and ~ $200 in the grand scheme of things is a drop in the bucket if it helps you get where you need to be.

True, I do feel like it should be apart of the VN program. I feel like I'm just paying $200 so it can look good on my resume. You're right, I saw IV Cert preferred, so I definitely think that would make stand out. I start in August and most place want close to $400. I'm just happy that I found a great deal.

IV certification is included at the end of some VN programs, but the students still have to pay for it. I found the course to be a waste because the OP is a phlebotomist, undoubtedly way beyond three successful sticks. And three successful sticks was of no practical use to me.
