I see there are schools that offer distance learning, and schools that have a bridge program from having a bachelors in another field to getting your CNM. Is there a program that incorporates both?
There are no bridge programs near me, and moving will be very difficult as I have a husband and child (and dog and cat, etc, etc) in tow.
I guess I am antsy to get going and want to know if I can bypass my RN/BSN and start catching babies.

I couldn't tell by your post--are you already an RN? If so, then check out Frontier! They have an online Bridge-MSN program. www.midwives.org

Unfortunately there aren't any distance programs that will train you to become a CNM unless you already have your RN. I think the issue is that you can't really learn basic nursing skills in a purely distance format. Look into local schools for your RN training... that's what I'm doing.
Also, depending on where you're located there is the option of going the CPM route if you don't want to be a nurse first.

I also can't tell from your post if you are already an RN. If so, there are several ADN-MSN programs out there, Frontier does have one to obtain your CNM.
If you already have a Bachelor degree in another field and you are an Associate degreed RN, there are also schools that let you matriculate into an MSN program providing you meet their requirements for matriculation. Again, Frontier has a program for previous Bachelor degree students who are already RN's.
If you aren't an RN already, well then first thing is first and you'll need to get that first. There are many options for that from technical schools to universities just depending on your needs and location.
Good luck!!!

If you are already an RN the above suggestions are right on target. If you are not, plan to become one before going on the become a CNM. I work with two people working on their advanced nursing degrees through Frontier and are very happy with this program so far.
I wish you good luck.

According to the Frontier website you can have a diploma RN and a Bachelors in another field. I am not sure if you have to still take the ADN-MSN bridge, but it would be the fastest way to get your RN.

I am sorry for commenting. Every time I browse the ARNP forums and I see the midwives thread titled "its a stretch.." it just seems a bit odd
Jokes aside - I have heard so many good things about CNM and wish you all well - it seems like the opportunities are abundant for you!!!

Ha! lol!
I figured it was a long shot. No, I don't have my RN yet (sorry I wasn't clear on that) I'm just impatient and wondering if there was a way to minimize my time and money spent to get where I want to be.
If you have a previous Bachelor degree (in any field at all), Frontier offers a matriculating option where you take a couple of classes they required, use your previous degree, write a rather large portfolio that outlines your experience and undergrad knowledge and then start the MSN program just as if you had a BSN.
That is currently what I am doing thru Frontier. I
