  1. Ha! lol! I figured it was a long shot. No, I don't have my RN yet (sorry I wasn't clear on that) I'm just impatient and wondering if there was a way to minimize my time and money spent to get where I want to be.
  2. I see there are schools that offer distance learning, and schools that have a bridge program from having a bachelors in another field to getting your CNM. Is there a program that incorporates both? There are no bridge programs near me, and moving will be very difficult as I have a husband and child (and dog and cat, etc, etc) in tow. I guess I am antsy to get going and want to know if I can bypass my RN/BSN and start catching babies.
  3. Thanks for your honesty about it! The tuition scares me, I would only go if I could get the tuition reimbursement but so far human resources has no option to get the information. Do you know anything about it? The other thing I didn't like about FL was that I'd have to take all my pre-requisites over since it's been more than 5 years since I took my science courses. With all the other programs I only have to take 3. I do like the fact that it's the closest campus to me. I've heard great things about SCC and VCC. I went to UCF for my first bachelors and enjoyed it overall. Now, I have another question... I read in another thread that for UCF that the students they accept for the accelerated bachelors program need to have a 3.7-3.8 gpa. Mine for my first bachelors with the pre-req's is just above a 3.0. After I went there I got my masters in another field and my gpa is closer to 4.0. Will that be taken into consideration?
  4. Thanks, I wasn't aware of their program. I am trying to find the best fit and so far it seems like the more information I can find about each program makes it more complicated.
  5. I want to get my RN and/or BSN, and I'm looking at my options. I'd appreciate any opinions and experiences. The programs I am looking at are: SCC, VCC, UCF, and Florida hospital. Thanks!
  6. Hi! I'm so glad to find this site! My name is Michelle and I am 29 and the mom of a beautiful year and a half year old. Ever since I observed a birth during a high school internship, I have been fascinated with obstetrics. Since then I got a BS in molecular and microbio (pre-med), went to school for acupuncture and am now a very, very part-time practicing acupuncturist, and I still love women's health and obstetrics and would love to further my education. Going through my pregnancy only made me realize how obsessed I am with the process. I've gone back and forth on what would be the best option for me. I've considered MD and PA, and recently have decided that CNM is probably the best fit. I know how hard and long going for an MD would be, and I don't feel that it's worth sacrificing my family for. PA would be a good alternative, but from looking into it it seems the ob/gyn field is dominated by NP/CNM. I also like the fact that as a CNM I will have more autonomy than a PA would. Eventually what I would like to do is work in the modern medical system in women's health while also incorporating acupuncture/herbs and a more holistic view. I know that I have several options for getting there, such as getting my RN or BSN and working for a few years then getting my masters degree. OR since I already have a bachelors in another field I did look into a few accelerated masters programs. Right now I am leaning towards getting my RN first and working in the field and then going back to school. I'm just looking for any thoughts on whether this choice in general will be a good fit for my ultimate goals, and what the pros and cons are for each type of training to get there. I would be able to attend local schools for RN or BSN, so at this point wouldn't have to move.
