Nurses General Nursing

Published

So I am nearly done with my preceptorship. It has been hard.

I could write a really long post but what I really want to say is this.....

The biggest takeaway thus far is that patients are living, feeling, thinking human beings. They are angry, scared, sad, lonely, the whole gamut of emotions....

It only takes a few extra seconds to smile, use therapeutic touch, to basically go the extra mile.

There are many on here who resist the fact that nursing IS a customer SERVICE job. We are providing a service to these patients.

My extensive customer service background has and will serve me well.

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

Do not do unto others what you do not want done unto you.

And fakebee it is not my sensibilites that matters.....fact is, I like my preceptor and I know that beneath her rough around the edgedness, she is a kind and caring person......

And I have not done a single thing to help her, she knows it all....

I have taken a very temporary, very very submissive position just so that I can survive my remaining few shifts with her......

Again, tell us what your preceptor failed to do in the customer service realm...inquiring minds want to know...how else can we improve our pitiful people skills and receive your approval?

Fiona, I read in your post that you said "soft drink"....

Here in the states that equates to "soda"

This is kinda a stupid point to argue, but it does NOT always equate to soda here in the states (heck, many people don't use the word 'soda').

Again, tell us what your preceptor failed to do in the customer service realm...inquiring minds want to know...how else can we improve our pitiful people skills and receive your approval?

I think you are missing my point entirely.......

But if you must know,

She is brash, rude, obnoxious, yells and screams at peers and patients alike....is a bully, and gets her way by using intimidation.......just to name a few.......not to mention that she seems to be a pathological liar......

Someone who likes and respects their preceptor does not come on a national forum, compare her to a rabid rhinoceros, says all her coworkers and patients hate her and proclaim that she will soon be fired.

maybe we can talk again when you are managing your own patient assignment by yourself and you are hard pressed to find that "few extra moments" for someone who has customer service requests (as opposed to actual medical concerns you have to address...)

also let us know when you meet the unsatisfiable, nearly delusional patient that twists every word you ever say to them, hurls piles of insults at you and leaves you explaining a massive mess full of half truths and full out lies to your manager.

I really think that If I said that water was wet you guys would find away to say that I was an idiot for saying so LOL....

Anyway, this thread has totally turned into a bash mindlor fest and is now completely useless...

ergo, I shall request that it be closed.......

I can like a person and still realize their flaws.....

If you ask for it, I will happily point out her many good points as well.......

All of us have good and bad points yes?

I know you want this threat to be closed, it probably will be. However, when did anyone say you were an idiot? How has anyone bashed you?

People are asking you fair questions about how you view your preceptor and other more experienced nurses. Instead of answering fairly, you got angry and defensive. I believe it is fair for experienced nurses to wonder how a SN or a very new nurse has the right to judge and critique an experienced nurse (I have almost 4 years of experience and I know that I don't have the right to judge other nurses). I think it is reasonable to say that issues with your preceptor may have to do with your attitude of the overall experience and not just your perceptions of that individual.

I am calling BS on this post and you Mindlor. If your preceptor is yelling at patients and peers, is physically or verbally intimidating students, patients and staff then this is a classic example of promoting a hostile workplace which you should recognize immediately with your years of management experience. And guess what you have a responsibility to do something about it...if you witnessed this nurse yell at a pt you saw pt abuse and must report it..and if management, your clinical instructor or whoever you reported it to did not act on it you have to higher up...you do not get a pass because you are a student. Tell us what you did to correct this wretched situation.
