Thanks caliotter3. Yes, I sure hope they are going to have some actual work available after all of this endless paperwork. I am hoping to do 1-2 night shifts a week. It pays better than my regular agency and is located near my home. My present agency does not seem to have any night shifts available. This agency did tell me that they do have night shifts available so I am hoping for the best.
Yikes!!!!I went to a home care private duty office and they gave me a list to complete. $16 for sheriff fingerprinting fees, $19.25 for FBI check and $16 for a FDLE background investigation. I have not had a "job interview" yet. I sure hope they plan on hiring me after I spent all this money doing their paperwork:confused:

Yes, I had to pay for this stuff when I applied to a privately owned (not a "chain" or whatever like PSA or Maxim, etc) home care agency. However, I had already been interviewed and was told the job was mine, as long as all the background checks were fine. I would NOT have liked doing and paying for it all BEFORE an interview or job offer!!! That seems odd!
By the way... this little agency turned out to be the best place I ever worked for - it was owned by a husband and wife. The wife was a RN. They offered little perks that you often do not get with home care agencies. And they really cared about their staff. They would also take a stand and support the staff if a family was being demanding and unrealistic. I was so sad when they retired and sold to a national chain...everything changed then. I left...
Thanks all. Sorry to hear caliotter3 that night shifts are hard to find in your area. Latinboyyy305-Did you have to pay the $57 up front before your interview or after you were officially hired? Yes, it does seem odd. Maybe they don't want to offer a job for sure until they know that you have in fact passed the background investigation? I wonder if I am even going to get an official job interview? Maybe once I turn in all my paperwork they will start calling me for jobs? I sure hope I will have a good experience with this privately owned home care agency like you did ArwenEvenstar.
Wow, I definitely would not spend all that money without an interview first. I always interview applicants first to determine whether I even want to hire them. If I don't, I don't even discuss what documentation is required but just let them know we will check their references and see if we have any positions available for the times they want to work. Later, I can call or send a 'rejection' letter. I always ask if their background check will come back clean during the interview. Most are upfront with me if they know something from their past will show up. If they do tell me what will show up on their background check, I will tell them on the spot whether I can hire them or not. If they have any theft charges in the last 10 yrs, I can't hire them. I do offer the position if the interview goes well but with the stipulation that they do have a clean background check. If they lie, and something does show up, I usually won't hire them since I value truthfulness in my employees.
The county check is only 5.00 but if they have not lived in the state for 3 yrs, they have to be fingerprinted which costs about 45.00. If they are fingerprinted they don't need the county check. We offer an incentive bonus of 150.00 after they have worked 250 hrs for us to cover their start up costs (physical, background checks, and orientation, which we don't pay them for) We also provide CPR certification and TB testing at no cost to them.

Yes, this whole experience has been crazy. I called them on the phone and they told me to come in and to bring my resume with me. I got all dressed up in my "interview outfit" and went to their office. I had thought I was coming in for an interview. When I arrived the receptionist just gave me a big list of things to complete and said get all of this stuff done and then bring it all back to our office. It seemed like all they cared about was that all the paperwork be completed and then I could start working for them.:confused:
That was my impression anyway. I sure hope they are going to have some work available for me after all of this expense. I am fairly new to both Florida and home care private duty agencies. I figured "I guess that's just the way they do things here in Florida."
When I lived in different states, I was always asked to do a urine drug screen prior to hire but no one in Florida has ever asked me to do a urine drug screen.
