has anyone done this in California. How do the clinicals works?
At first I wasn't interested in this program, but now I'm really interested since my graduation is coming up in March from VN school. I also have a degree and I'm wondering about the nursing components of the program. How long do you think it would take to finish the nursing portion? Can you take as many nursing classes as possible or do you have to take minimal classes? I'm looking to finish the nursing portion in about 18 months. Is that doable? Any information would be helpful. I already had someone give me the information how to contact the school and I'm still waiting a reply from them.
I sent an email to the person at ISU that works with Sonoma State and ask her for specific clinical sites in my area of calilfornia(the same town that sonoma state is in) and she gave a very vague reply. She just said they had clinical sites in that area and if I find one I want to use I should give her the name and number of a contact person. She also said they TRY to keep your sites within fifty miles of your home.
I am getting very hesitant about going thru that program now that I am hearing people say we may have to find our own sites. Sounds pretty scarry. How does one go about doing that? How do you find a precepter if you dont know any BSNs to begin with? Do people in other states where the program has been for a longer time have problems? Other than that the program sounds like an incredible deal for alot of people including myself.
Maybe I just dont have all the information I need yet. The online program sounds so good but I am worried about spending thousands of dollars taking online classes and then not having preapproved clinical sites.
Oh well. It looks like I got on a rant. I guess I am just expressing my anxiety over that program. If anyone has any feedback it would be much appreciated!
So, I'm curious - why do the program through a 3rd party group like college network or the ISU mentioned instead of directly with the school (or any other school that offers their own online program)?
Also, if you do this program through the 3rd party, does your degree look like a regular degree from the university, or does it somehow designate it as different?
Thanks,
Kim
ISU (Indiana State) *is* the school so your degree comes from them. No it doesn't look any different. College Network is a company that offers study guides to streamline the process of getting your pre-reqs done as well as 4 beginning nursing courses. I've used their study guides and I do like them but if I had it to do over I would look for the study guides on eBay or something rather than from TCN. They're just really expensive and it bugs me that they give the impression to so many people that they are the ones who grant the credit when they simply provide a text to study from.
Ok - so if a person doesn't need any of the pre-requisites or beginning/lower division credits than it doesn't really serve a purpose it sounds like. Thanks for the info!
No not really. I used their CSMs for the challenge tests but if you still have your LPN books I don't see why you couldn't just study out of those. The challenge tests are mandatory though.
I currently work at Scripps in La Jolla,CA so I can check if there is a contract being set up because I am also interested in doing the ISU online program.
hey...I'm in wilmington nc and have begun w/ ISU. but I am responding to you cuz I went off the cliffs in la jolla, ca., paragliding..and it was one of the most wonderful feelings in the world! !!!
anyway...for me, ISU is the way to go.
