Isu lvn-rn used study guide needed... Help!

Published

I'm in the process of completeling the 4 challenge exams that are required in order to start the BSN program... I successfully passed NURS 106 Mental Health Aspects of Nursing Practice and NURS 224 Nursing Care of Adults, however I failed NURS 328 Nursing Care of the Child and Family (by 2 questions nonetheless). Now I am being strong armed into purchasing the study module from College Network and they're charging $525 for one bloody study manual!!! Like I can afford that. They do not sell used editions and I have to show proof of purchase before ISU will let me sit for the exam again.

Thank you! :bowingpur

Hello there.......That (Nurs 328) is the only one I haven't taken yet. I plan to take in a few weeks though. Good luck :)

:yeah:CHECK EBAY/AMAZON.COM DAILY FOR MODULES THEY ARE VERY CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!

I took 106 and 330. Can you tell me how or what I should study for 224 and 328. Any help would be great. Thanks

Dont purchase if have not already e-mail me. The exam is just like the study questions that come with the module. TOOK 224 AND 330 PASSED BOTH.

Have you looked online in the ISU student forum?

I bought the TCN ISU study guides but you do not need them. Further, the study guide questions may or may not be on the test. I also found that some of the questions were never covered in the study guides. I suggest you get a good NCLEX book with rationals and review sections. Go over those questions for the subject you need. I also used How to get A's in ____ (fill in the subject you need to study and get the guide) from Lippincott.

You shoull not be strong armed into buying the ISU study guides. If you fail the exam twice then ISU mandates you buy the TCN study guide for that exam. Remember you must wait a month before retaking the exam you failed.

hello RED28,

I'm trying to take the NURS224. I can't find the module anywhere on ebay. Do you have any advice or alternative? thank you in advance.

You do not need a the TCN study guide for ISU N224. If you have a nursing book for the subject concentrate on that. If you have a book by Pearson or Saunders, they have free websites that correspond to the book. They have notes for the chapters. That may be helpful.

I have written much on which books to buy to avoid the $500 cost of each study guide. Review the previous posts and you should do just fine. As someone who took the exams, I can tell you that the study guides are no magic bullet. You will be given questions from the test database; I found that some of the questions were never mentioned in the study guides. Fortunately, I had studied from my Fundamentals of Nursing, Med surg, mother and child, mental health books as well as the Lippincott books that I also studied--which was very fortunate. The study guides are a quick and dirty discussion of what is taught in the complete course--it is not comprehensive. You will need to study with other books--or at least review them.

Thanks for your reply LadyinScrubs. I have purchased some of the other College Network review books for the ISU challenge exams, and I do agree with you that they do not cover everything that is tested. I will definitely take your suggestion and look into purchasing some supplemental textbooks to aid in my studies. Thanks again! :)

The College Network is a money making entity--period. They are a middle man, all they do is sell programs and materials. You can purchase books etc from anywhere you want. If it's not too late, skip the College Network and go directly to amazon, ebay or your schools second hand bookstore.

Correction I passed 106 (Mental Health Nursing) and 330 (Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family)

Failed 328 Nursing Care of the child and family AKA Pediatrics. The module did cover the information but the questions worded on the exam are worded very tricky. I made some dumb mistakes and allowed my nerves to get the best of me........:( So I will be retaking this exam
