Isu lvn-rn used study guide needed... Help!

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I'm in the process of completeling the 4 challenge exams that are required in order to start the BSN program... I successfully passed NURS 106 Mental Health Aspects of Nursing Practice and NURS 224 Nursing Care of Adults, however I failed NURS 328 Nursing Care of the Child and Family (by 2 questions nonetheless). Now I am being strong armed into purchasing the study module from College Network and they're charging $525 for one bloody study manual!!! Like I can afford that. They do not sell used editions and I have to show proof of purchase before ISU will let me sit for the exam again.

Thank you! :bowingpur

Does anyone have any tips/stradigies/ info for passing adult and peds nursing??????????

Correction I passed 106 (Mental Health Nursing) and 330 (Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family)

Failed 328 Nursing Care of the child and family AKA Pediatrics. The module did cover the information but the questions worded on the exam are worded very tricky. I made some dumb mistakes and allowed my nerves to get the best of me........:( So I will be retaking this exam

The first two exams are the easiest and the 3rd is the most difficult. The last exam is inbetween. What I hear is you are having problems with the questions and how they are written. If that is the case and you have aced the material, get a new RN NCLEX book that has questions with the rationales. The NClLEX book will give you far more questions than the TCN study guides. The rationales provides an explanation how the answer was obtained. Understanding the way a question is being asked is as important as knowing the answer. The NCLEX book will very useful. BTW ISU changes its study guides each year (I think they revise it each fall) so if you do get a used TCN study guide, make sure the publication date is within the last year.

While I did order the study guides from TCN, I used it in conjunction with Lippincott's Straight A's in Pediatric Nursing as well as the Lippincott book for med surg. I compared the info found in the two and they had very similar info. This makes sense, because they are teaching to the NCLEX standard and are not inventing anything special. The Lippincott book is very affordable than the TCN study guide; new it will run about $40. In used condition it is far less. Who cares the condition if it is a recent edition. If you order through Amazon and sign up as a student for their preferetial shipping, you can get free shipping or pay $3 for overnight. To qualify, you provide an ISU student email address. Because you are taking the challenge exams, you have an ISU student ID as well as an ISU student email account--whether you know it or not. Don't know the account address, call the IT dept at ISU and they can help.

Remember, if you do not pass the challenge exam the 2nd time, ISU will require you order the TCN study guide, make you produce a book receipt before you can reregister for the challenge, and you will have to wait a min of one month before retaking the exam. If you pass all the challenge exams, you should be able to start in the Spring 2012 class--I don't know if you could make the deadline for the fall 2011 class. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

many have posted info and advice on the process. go up to the search section on the top right and put in the search parameters you wish. i think you will be very surprised at how much the same info has been asked and answered. here at allnurses, there are many isu distant learning lpn to bsn threads that will answer most of your questions. also, go to the indiana state university nursing dept's lpn to bsn website--again, you can google the website. the department has the definitive information. if you still have questions, ask away.
