Is it true that male new grads are not struggling with finding jobs?

I think its annoying being called a "male nurse", I'm a nurse.

I think people will find any excuse or arbitrary reason why someone got the job, promotion or better pay over them, whether it be fact or fiction. It's a classic self defense mechanism.

I DESPISE this term, and I'm not male.

If a patient asks me, "who's my nurse today?" I would reply "it's John, he's tall with blonde hair and glasses" not some form of derogatory term like "Murse" or the "male nurse." I cringe when others use it, and give them stink eye when I hear it. Do we say "female nurse"? No.

My colleagues, male or female, are nurses. Period.

Men although a minority in nursing do tend to get to the top.

I often have wondered why this might be. Perhaps they spend less time having a go at their colleagues and do not indulge in the endless gossip and backbiting so endemic with female nurses.

Just saying.

Perhaps- or maybe it's just no different than any of field. Statistically, men get paid more, promoted more and respected more than women in the workplace. I'm thinking nursing is no different. Just more proof that 'equality' still has room for improvement.

Men go to the top in every profession! They get promoted more often and faster, while women hit a glass ceiling. And for you men that think its not true or that you cant see it, of course you cant! Male privilege is all around you. Ask a fish what water is and youll get no answer.

I have no clue, but come to think of it, before my ex NM took another position he hired a male new grad stating "This is my goodbye present to you" well, he is HOT! Seriously, Hot. Very nice on the eyes.

Good nurse though. good with the families and people. Always relaxed never stressed in our ICU. A little brushing up with his clinical skills, but we help him with that:)

Oh to be a man in a woman's world. Men don't have to worry about childcare, men get paid so much more, men can stand to pee, men are always promoted over a woman...man I wish I was in this world!

So, if I can bench 250lbs easy, can I be considered a man? lol Or is the peeing while standing obligatory? :smokin:

Most new grads are struggling. That pretty much sums it up.

I graduated a year ago. I'm male. I'm able to work as a RN in three states. And I have not found any employment as a RN.

Let me also say that I live in the N.NJ area. So no, at least in this area being male does not mean employment as a RN.

@ Nurse uk,men may fair better in the Nursing profession because of the discriminatory and unfair labor practices that plague nearly every other profession there is. In addtion, men take little or no time away from work for child bearing or rearing.

So whose fault is that now?The men for being unable to bear children themselves.We got time off, didn't we?

To paraphrase a poster, 'if you want the tops jobs then go and get them'!

Katie, sorry, I dodnt make myslef clear on that post........

Women bear the brunt of child rearing, whether they are married or not, therefore they do not have access to the same employment and educational opportunities as men. Therefore they may move up the ladder of success faster.......

For instance, I'm single mother. I have to work and go school the hours that my kids are in school. I can't take a job working nights or evenings. The fact that I made through my first semester of nursing school is due to nothing short of the grace of God. I have no idea what I'm going to do when I'm a new grad.

Furthermore, extended and family and medical leave remains unpaid at many places, sadly.

Most new grads are struggling. That pretty much sums it up.

A larger bench press is a side effect, but you must continue working on the peeing while standing to be able to actually fit the mold...sorry.

One thing that might help with the above post is that hitting the target is not necessary!
