Is this ok to do when applying for jobs?

Published

So I will be graduating in April with my ADN. I want to apply at nursing homes because I really enjoyed my clinicals there and I have a passion for working with the elderly. However, I dont see a lot of postings on craigslist or indeed.com for jobs at SNFs/LTC facilities.

Many LTC facilities have websites but dont post job openings at all. Would it be ok to send them my cover letter and resume by clicking on "contact us", which usually goes to the DON? and maybe follow up and be persistent? Or would that be annoying? There are many LTC facillities around me and some that I am willing to drive to, but so many of them do not have a section for job openings but have a "contact us" page.

Props to you for liking SNF/LTC. Personally, I haven't work in one that had decent staffing and I always felt like a med pusher and the environments were awful. You can go directly to the facilities and ask for an application. After you fill it out, you can ask if the DON is available. The ones around here I see ads all the time, I presume because of high turn over rate. Good luck.

For LTC it's best to just go in and ask to speak to someone from HR or for an application. Most are small and administration is easily accessible. That's what I did and the scheduler gave me an app and the DN walked by when I was filling it out and asked me to come into her office. Make sure you wear something nice and professional.

I have gottem several jobs call me to set up an interview by selecting the "contact me". Matter of fact a job jus called me last thurs for an RN position which i used that same method......but it was too late i had already accepted a full time position somewhere. I also have yet to take my boards as i have jus finished school nov 25. I explained to her tjat i havent taken my boards for RN yet but was/had a been a LPN for yrs but since i already accepted a position as one i would have to decline. She BEGGED me to call her the millisecond i passed my boards. I encourage you to do it!!!

Wow, thanks for the replies everyone. It doesn't help that I have no experience in healthcare (I have been a waitress since I was 16, so 5 years and am currently still a waitress), and that is the only job experience I have so far, besides volunteering experience. I will definitely go in person to the local ones but I am also considering applying to ones that are an hour away, so I may just send those facilities an email through contact us. Does that sound reasonable?

I agree, going in the LTCF with your resume is your best bet. That is how I got my first job in assisted living. I walked in, applied and was hired on the spot.

Go in to each one you want to work at and ask to speak to the DON. They do the hiring and they do not usually look at anything that comes in over the website and most likely do not ever see anything sent to the "Contact us" button.

You can always call first and ask to speak to the DON and ask if they are hiring. Then drop off your resume, make sure your ask for and fill out their application too.
