Is Houston Stipulation Friendly?

Published

I have a Warning with Stipulations from the Texas BON. Is Houston, TX "friendly" toward nurses with disciplinary action or will I get passed over for most jobs? My stips do not include any work restrictions in a hospital setting.

Apply everywhere! Many Dr offices hire LVNs. You will be surprised who is recovery friendly. Good luck!

i have always found LTC and Dialysis friendly

I am a RN and I am not in recovery... I have applied for RN positions with St. Luke's, Memorial Hermann, and Methodist. I gave a detailed explanation of my TXBON warning on my application, and so far St. Luke's and Memorial Hermann recruiters have called me to set up interviews. They haven't mentioned anything about my warning. I have not heard from Methodist, so maybe they do not want to hire nurses with disciplinary action. But, it's only been one week since I started applying for jobs. I really hope that Houston is understanding! Has anyone had experience with this?

I have also applied for an Acute Dialysis RN position with Davita in Houston. I keep hearing that they are okay with encumbered licenses. Also, from what I've read, acute dialysis sounds like a job I'd like!

I've applied to Davita for acute dialysis aa well. Any updates? Can you do this position with restrictions?

I had a phone interview with the recruiter and she just asked if I needed supervision. I said no and she said okay. She mentioned that they will need to get me credentialed at the hospitals where I'll be working. She didn't say that my situation would effect credentialing. I am scheduled for an interview with the regional manager soon. We'll see what happens!

St. Luke's is not very stipulation friendly. They told me it would be better if I'd wait to pursue jobs with them until my stipulations were removed. I've had interviews with a couple of other major hospitals in Houston, and I'm still waiting to hear the verdict on those.

The department I interviewed for at Ben Taub is not stipulation friendly. I have been very forthcoming on all of my applications. I'm not sure why nurse recruitment at these different hospital systems is wasting all of our time by setting me up on these interviews. They need to read applications more carefully. :/

Thanks for posting about your interactions with the various organizations. This information is valuable to others who may have the same situation. Best of luck to you on your job search.

Well, it seems to be the general consensus among the large hospitals in the Houston area that they won't hire me until my stipulations are lifted. My stipulations do not restrict my practice in any way, but HR/legal seems to see stipulated nurses as a possible "risk" they are not willing to assume. For the meantime, I am burned out of trying to argue my case to HR departments. I am very thankful to currently have a good nursing job, and I'm going to wait until my stipulations are lifted to start applying again.

The 6 month mark of my one year order is coming up very soon and I will be eligible to submit a request to have my stipulations lifted at that time. Hopefully, my request will be granted and I can resume my Houston area job search. If not, I will just wait until December when my order is OVER!

Also, I shadowed at a DaVita Acute Dialysis location and, unfortunately, I don't think that job is for me. I know they would hire me with my stipulations, but I would rather wait than to take a job that I'm pretty sure I won't enjoy.
