Is it hard to find an RN job being military wife?

My fiance plans on joining the Air Force!

I have worked as an RN for a year now and I have a full-time job on a med-surg unit (which, I'll admit, I'm pretty lucky to have, because there is absolutely no nursing shortage where I'm at!) So, is it going to be hard to find work as an RN with only a year's experience? The economy sucks, and I can't guarantee a future employer that I'll be with the company for more than a year or two... Can anyone give me a head's up on what I can do with my nursing career as a military wife? (By the way, it sounds so weird to be calling myself a military wife!) Please, someone tell me that I'm not going to have to waste my nursing education having to take a job at the commissary!!!

I am one and haven't had a hard time finding a job. Employers love that I bring diversity, having moved and experienced different areas/populations. You'll be fine moving with one year M/S experience. PM me if you want more details.

Never had a problem. It's probably one of the best careers to have as a spouse because nurses are everywhere!

I agree with previous posts. Its one of the best careers to have as a military wife. It will really come in handy that you already have a year of experience.

I dont think you will have any trouble finding a position. Just a suggestion, try looking in to the civilian armed forces, lol,( ie g.s./ dod nursing positions)

I have been a nurse for 7 yrs and a military spouse for 20 yrs, never had to much of a problem getting a job. It is hard being the new person though, and I will never get vested.

Good luck to you and keep us posted:)

USA jobs - VA medical centers - try that route too....

question to you wives that have interviewed, do you disclose your husband's military status? I haven't worked as a nurse yet ( I graduate in Dec), but I know that in the past interviewers always ask what brings me to the area when they look at my resume and my wide variey of work experience and schooling in different states.

I just told them my husband's employer had transferred him to the area. Heck, if they didn't hire military here, they'd be short a boatload of staff.

It really depends on where you are posted to. Small towns are harder than cities.

Nurses are everywhere. And a nursing education is never a waste! :)

Why don't you commission in the military as a nurse too? Seriously. Married couples can do the military together.
