Is it hard to find a job in NYC with only one year RN experience?

Hello I'm thinking about moving from another state to NYC. I only have one year of critical care experience and I'm wondering if it's easy or hard to find a job as an RN with only one year of experience.

Thanks.

Hi Ash1223,

I am also a critical care nurse and I'm located in Brooklyn, I would be happy for any help myself to get a job.

Since you are in CCU it will be easier. Start looking now because NYC is much harder than others cities/states to find a nursing job. I am from FL myself and when I moved here as a new grad I practically had to beg for a job. You won't be begging bc you have experience but just give yourself enough time to look bc it is competitive here. Best of luck and I know you will love NYC.

Thanks pinkgator for your response! How long ago did you move to NY? Congrats on landing a new grad position, if it's anything like CA, then it must have been brutal. Is it better to sign up with a traveling nurse company and get placed in NYC? Also is it harder if you find a job with only one year of RN experience vs. two years? Are most hospitals on 8 or 12 hour shifts? Do you recommend living close to the hospital you work at? My sisters live in NYC and I visit as often as I can. I love it there! I can't wait to move in a few months! Thanks agian!

Hi! I just started my search recently for a new job in the NYC area, as well! It's only been about two or three weeks so far, and I got some calls back, but they weren't for positions that I want. I'd love to work in a hospital if I can... I have just under two years of experience in PICU... I've found that recruiters for agencies do seem to have many positions available, though... you might want to consider that, too! And then once you're in NY, you can continue the search in person! :)
