Is the flu in your school?

Hey fellow school nurses,

Just curious if students/teachers have been diagnosed with the flu and how you've handled it with other parents/staff. I've had a bunch of kids whose parents have diagnosed them with the flu :banghead: but that's not exactly the same thing !

So i'm usually a bit more lax with suggesting that parents take their kids to a doctor. I think it's the former hospital administrator in me that cringes when i know that on a normal day i'm sending a kid home for a sniffle and the parent thinks they need to rush them off - to the ER no less. But the past few weeks if feel like Oprah -

You get a doctor's visit - and you get a doctor's visit, you get a doctor's visit and you too!

The tamiflu is a flowing here, but thankfully not so much that I have to do health dept surveillance.

I'm almost scared to say this, but it seems to be easing off a bit...

We are finally back to our normal average absent numbers - I hope it stays that way.

I'm knocking on wood. The Thursday and Friday before February break I send home 15+ students. 9 of them were from one grade and one homeroom and within 24 hours I have two of those nine confirmed with the flu. I was never so happy to see February break so deep cleaning could happen to lessen the spread.
