Just an observation but, it seems like there's a flood of posts lately from people inquiring about moving here.
Not too long ago the local news seemed to be filled with stories about people supposedly moving away because of the high cost of living, traffic etc. I guess that in reality, it doesn't always seem to be the case ... at least with RN's.
So what's up posters? What made you decide to check out and/or move to Cali?

Ding ding ding ding! BIngo!!! LOLSigh....I left Calif over 10 years ago swore I'd never go back - to expensive to live; too many crowds of rude people I thought.
Guess what. Just as many in the rest of the world! HA (as far as uncaring)....
Yep ... same experience for me. People are pretty much the same, no matter where you go.

I agree, as long as you mean in the US when you all say wherever you go.
I haven't gone myself to prove it yet, but I am convinced that there has to be some countries in this world where people treat eachother MUCH better and have better attitude, work ethic, morals, etc...
I've lived a lot of places in the US and have been extremely dissapointed in this regard in every place I have been - although I will say that Washington DC was by FAR the worst in this regard. The people there don't even look at eachother, and often will literally not even give you the time of day, and that's just the beginning. Couldn't stand it there.
For Lizz and Mercyteapot:
Please read pages 3-6 of Freakonomics and that will explain about the crime rates I was talking about.

And sorry I didn't respond earlier. I don't post very often and had forgotten about this thread.
I have lived in the Bay area since 1979 and frankly I can't wait to get out Housing is too expensive. If you want yo pay from $1,000 for a studio apt that may have roaches than move here.

I have to agree. I was stunned at how rude the people in the city were. A colleague of mine grew up there and dreams of moving back. He can have it.
I wonder if people who live in cities are more disenfranchised in general. When I lived in Pittsburgh, it always seemed that people in certain parts of town were rude bordering on hostile. As if the world had already kicked them in the head, so they were just going to kick you. I get that same vibe every time I go to DC (I'm just talking about the city, not the surrounding area) and when I go to LA every Wednesday for class. I take a commuter train there, and most of the people who ride it are very friendly. The people on the city transit are much, much less so.
i hate the cold weather, snow, roads, ahh i could go on and on! I';ve wanted to live in california ever since i was younger and now its about time I make that happen. I"m supposed to be living on the beach... not in a snow storm!!The reason I chose California rather than any of the other warm places? Because every where south is soo hot and humid and i hate that. Thats one of the reasons I hate PA 's summers. Its either chilly and raining or its 90 degrees with your clothes sticking to you. Florida is nice but you get paid the same rate as I do in pa.. starting at about 20 dollars an hour but the housing is really expensive. Plus I don't want to move somewhere south where I have the possibility of HURRICANES!! I'd rather deal with an earthquake than a hurricane.
I'm young enough to move arounda little before I figure out where I want to settle down and start a family at.
Amen!
I'm from NJ.

I think I may want to go back,too...but will have to wait and see.
