I've read several post here regarding class difficulties. People ask OTHERS about "the hardness" of a paticular class. Think about that for a second...Not a very confident experience is it?
Is there some sort of universal code or rule defining difficulties/challenges? Of course not! It's some1 else's opinion, you need not own it. ex: Wow, I read a post from some1 here (that i've never met) who had a challenge in class xyz. I should anticipate, fear and dread going to class xyz! Yikes! Or...I'm bad at math because my Grandfather, Father and brother are. I guess I must have that faulty math gene! Feel free to substitute any other limiting belief or rationalization. Is fear a bad thing? I don't thing so. It's unfortunate if you dwell in fear, however; if you USE fear as a tool to anticipate an opportunity...wow, a preparation tool! What a powerfull and confident experience!
When I inticipate a struggle I think of the following role models (sounds corny huh) who had problems...
HULDA CROOKS
was an out of shape, sickly and perpetually tired woman. She decided at 66 to take up mountain climbing for a hobby! At 91 she was the oldest woman to climb mount Fuji!
ARON RALSTON
an experienced climber, got his forearm crushed by a boulder. After the fifth day Aron decided to break and amputate his forearm with a pocketknife!
LANCE ARMSTRONG
cancer survivor and Winner of 7 consecutive toure de France titles.
INGA
a Hungarian immigrant and friend who claimed that eating at McDonalds was a luxury usually only visited once maybe twice a year for birthdays.
Maybe some of us should reframe our belief system.

i remember when i first took biochemistry. first thing the professor said, "last year, only 3 students passed my class". everyone was scared, but me. i told myself, if only 3 students pass this semester, one of them is going to be me. sure enough, i got a b+ for the class. many students did not pass, ended up dropping. i dont like to use the word "hard", i prefer to use "challenging". hard sounds like you cant do it.philippians 4:13 says,i have strength for all things in christ who empowers me [i am ready for anything and equal to anything through him who [a]infuses inner strength into me; i am [b]self-sufficient in christ's sufficiency]. (niv)
(new living translation) for i can do everything with the help of christ who gives me the strength i need
wonderfully said.
another thing is that it's normal to have people complain about a class. i've done it many times myself. however, i also know my limitations and i know what i can and can't do, and i don't do it to be negative toward others. i just do it to vent. sometimes it's true, most times it's not. i just depends on the individual and what you set your mind to.

If I get really frustrated I vent, even cry...but I always get over it rather quickly and pick things right back up. The fighter instinct doesn't allow me to quit. It's healthy to vent and I am very lucky that I have a great family that puts up with me for the duration of such episodes. Sometimes that's all we need, just someone to listen to us, an opportunity to get it out of our systems! My husband is well trained and has learned not to give me any advice during those critical times..... he just listens, nods his head and gives me TLC. He used to take it too serious when I seemed serious about wanting to throw in the towel. I know i will complain about my upcoming class, too. Hey that stuff is not easy that we have to learn! It's all a big game and we need to figure out how to win it!
It's okay to vent. This is a wonderful place to "let it out" and get advice. Some classes are more challenging than others, but it can be done! Many people before us have went through these same classes. A good grade requires a dedication to studying, going to every (or almost every) class, and a commitment to do what is needed for the course. We can pass our classes, if we work at it. Good luck to you all; I know we can do it!

That is so true.

I love the posts on this thread!
Just today a girl in my nursing 1 class said "I'll just be glad when 30 people fail this class so I can start feeling like I'll be here at graduation". This comment was a result of the statistic of only 50% of those who are admitted to the program will graduate from it.
My attitude is this: If I fail this class it's because it was impossible for anyone to succeed in it, because if there is one tiny glimmering hope that I can pass, I certainly will. If I fail, there will be ZERO graduates in my college's 2006 Spring semester nursing program.
I don't have this attitude because I am much smarter than all of my classmates, but because the only reason I could possibly fail is because I decided to stop trying, and that is not going to happen.
Keep your chin up and keep up the great attitudes!

I think it's weird when teachers give their drop statistics for their class. For once i'd like to hear a teacher say- "Hello, usually half the students drop this class/program because they're not challenged enough and they find the coursework too easy. Those who leave usually pursue studies in nuclear medicine, genetic engineering or other studies. I think you'll find that our coursework is VERY easy, it just takes plenty of hard work."
Think about this...
I believe that we all believe in our beliefs. We also have referrances to back up our beliefs. If you believe all people are greedy you'll only think of those referrances and you won't even notice the givers and contributors. I also believe you'll get what you focus on. If you focus on what you want, ideas and solutions will arise. If you focus on what you don't want...well, you'll probably set yourself up for failure and achieve just that.
I failed my first nursing class (Nursing II) last semester. It was EXTREMELY upsetting to me. I had such a hard time coping with the fact that I missed the passing grade by 2 points- and my friends made it through. It was definitely a lesson learned. I am currently taking the rest of my required electives this semester and plan on going back to the nursing program in the fall.
I am trying to keep a positive attitude. But it is tough! I was hoping to graduate in May 2007, but now it has been pushed back a year. I know at the very least what I am up against when I go back- and I know I will definitely be doing things differently.
