I graduated nursing school in may 2009 and due to this hectic year have not yet taken the nclex. I was wondering if there is a deadline to pass the nclex before my opportunity to test expires. I graduated in pennsylvania and I would really appreciate if anyone can help me out with this. I know that on my paperwork I recieved after graduation it says that you have one year from the date the letter was signed but I was hoping that was just the deadline to turn in the paperwork in. I have read that some people have waited years and were still allowed to test. Is this true? Thanks for reading.

You need to contact the PA Board. You will probably have to get a new authorization to test if you go over your deadline.

I live in Colorado and am in the same boat, graduated May of 2009, life got a little crazy and I have put off the NCLEX until now. Each state's regulatory agency has a different set of rules. If you haven't gotten your paperwork in, do it now!! For Colorado the rules state that we have a maximum of 3 attempts to take the NCLEX within three years from the first date you took the NCLEX in any state, territory, or foreign country. It then goes on to say that if those attempts are unsuccessful than you have to complete the didactic portion of an approved refreasher course within one year of the last unsuccessful attempt of the NCLEX. With successful completion of that than you are granted to take the NCLEX one last time within a year from the last unsuccessful NCLEX examination.
I finally signed up for the NCLEX and am taking it on April 30. I was on the deans list at school but I'm really scared to take this test now. A year doesn't seem like a long time but in studying for the NCLEX I've lost a lot of information that I used to now. So, when you do decide to take the test, give yourself plenty of time to study. Good Luck and try not to put the test off for too much longer...we did go to school for a reason, right??
Also, nice to know that someone else is in the same boat as me...thought I was the only slacker out there.
