Is becoming an LPN really that bad??

Hi everyone,

Is becoming an LPN really that bad at all? Is becoming an RN does make you a "Perfect Nurse" since you have a 4 years degree?:confused: Why they always put LPN down? They are nurses too right?, that is why there is a reason why they exist in the field.

No one said that it is 'bad'. If you are a US Citizen or a GC holder and if you want to be an LPN then that is fine. It is your choice.

It's just that people posting in the International forums who took their LPN course outside the US and are not either a US Citizen or a GC holder cannot be petitioned by that course so that is not advisable.

Not all jobs are eligible for petitioning for a work visa or a GC for the US. Only jobs that are in shortage and that Americans cannot fill up are eligible for petitioning.

In my opinion:

In USA the average person does not know the difference between a RN, LPN, CNA, etc.

If you wear a scrub suit they will assume you are a nurse.

Pay Rate and training is the main difference in USA.

The US, as well as most other countries will not issue a visa for those that have the LPN training as there is not a shortage of them in the US.

Simple as that.

And most that wear scrubs in the US when not at work, are not even in the health care field to beging with but just with to look "cool."

Not at all. Neither becoming an RN or LPN or even APN makes you a perfect nurse. Everybody has a different level of education, job description and scope of practice. LPNs contribute a lot to the patient's safety and well-being, and I am sure they receive respect for that, and are proud of their jobs.

I don't think people put LPNs down and put RNs high just because of their length of education. As the previous posters have mentioned, foreign nurses who want to be petitioned for Green cards are not advised to take LPN courses because it doesn't qualify for the visa.

Keep up a high spirit. LPNs are as valuable and admired for their work as are RNs or any other advance prepared nurses.
