Is becoming an CNA good experience before you become an RN?

Published

Was thinking about becoming an CNA this summer after college is over...I am in my first sem. of pre-reqs currently at a community college. My friend who is a Nursing Assistant began working in a Nursing home and now works in a hospital. I haven't heard of many people doing this...just want to hear your thoughts :)

And, if you are a CNA, or have taken this path, do you think it has helped with the transitioning to the medical workplace?

Yes, I have my C.N.A II, and I wouldn't have made the decision to become a RN without it. But thats just my personal OP.

YES!!

not only do you gain confidence in being able to deal with patients/family/ other medical personnel, but you learn how to give basic care..and not be afraid of it or think its "below" a RN...which is always a plus.

You wont regret becoming a CNA..it can only help you succeed in nursing school.

uncp2011....How do you get a CNA II and what is the difference in tasks between II and basic? I'm about to start a program in a couple of weeks and hoping to get into a hospital for volunteer or a shift prior to nursing school next year. Would a CNA II help? I know in some professions adding a level like that is a matter of years of experience. Is this the case or was it a different program level?
