Is a B average really that bad?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone! I'm currently pre-nursing, just starting out with my prereqs. I submitted my first assignment in my english class this week and when I got my grade back and it was a B+ I was disappointed. I don't want to sound ridiculous, but so far all I have managed to pull in school has been B's, and all I hear about nursing school is how incredibly competitive it is.

I have not taken any of my sciences yet, and I know how crucial an A in a&p is and I intend to get one, even if I have to retake the class.

Is a B average going to hurt my chances are being accepted into a program?

Idk I have Bs in 2 scince classeswhich makes me feel stupid*sigh* but I do have As in other prenursing courses. It depends on the school but also maybe a 3.0 isnt too great but a 3.5 seems a whole lot better my school is point based and there is a huge difference in points for a 3.0, 20 points, compared to a 4.0, whichyoud get 40points for. Youd think it be closer to like 30 for a 3.0 but no...

But dont worry too much just aim for As in the rest of your courses. Do you ask the teacher for input about how you can make it an A paper or whatever your working on? Im sure thatd help. Good luck.

It really depends on your program. I know for my program, most people are retaking B's because they didn't get in. A couple B's won't kill you, but a lot will. For us, it's a GPA/point thing. Although, as long as you get a 3.5 cumulative on the pre reqs, you're fine in points.

Do you want to make the "Presidents list" or is

Phi Theta Kappa/Phi Beta Kappa good enough? :)

Go into A&P planning to get your A the first time. Some schools only take your first grade.

It depends on your program. At the CC here, I know someone that got in with a 2.9 gpa. She rarely got As. However the BSN program I applied to requires that you at least have a 3.0 to apply but nobody gets accepted with under a 3.35 usually. I just applied with a 3.48 so I'm hoping that's good enough to get in. I had a lot of As, but I also retook a lot of classes. I never had to retake a science class...I got a B in A&P I, and I got As in nutrition, micro and biology. I'm taking A&P II now along with chemistry and it's too early to tell how I'll do. As long as I get accepted for spring, then I'll be ok with getting Bs in those classes.

Where is this school, and can I move there? lol. Congrats on your A in Nutrition, I've heard that one is not easy.

You're competing against the other applicants to get a limited number of spots. They start with 4.0 students and work their way down.

Call the program(s) you're interested in and ask to have an adivsor review your transcripts. They can give you an idea if you have a chance or not; then when you apply it just depends on how high the GPAs of other applicants are.

Honestly, the closer to 4.0 you are, the better your chances. It depends on the program and area, but generally a 3.5 will get you in a BSN program. I was accepted to a BSN program with a 3.8, with a B+ in A&P I, bio chem, and organic chem, so you can still get in with Bs for sure.

Lol I live in Toledo, OH. Thanks! Actually, I had a B but my prof bumped me to an A since I showed up everyday & participated!

I might want to move there! Lol! Out here, in Carson NV, it's so crazy competitive. They say at least 10 people apply per spot. And they go on a point system.

Ouch! Here, there's a CC that goes on a point system. The university I applied to just solely looks at cumulative GPA. They accept 80 students every semester including summer. I applied for spring but if I don't get in, I'm applying for summer. Fall is the most competitive & usually the lowest GPA is 3.55. For spring & summer it's usually around 3.33. Good luck to you!!
