Is anyone waiting for an admissions letter to Oakton s nursing fall prgram?

Published

I am waiting to hear if I was accepted into The OCC nursing program starting this fall, we are sopposed to get out acceptance/rejection letter this week and I am totally freaking out?Is anyone on the same boat as me, just waiting and waiting?:uhoh3:

I shouldn't really be saying this but.......

Yesterday I was done with micro at OCC waiting around outside. This one girl came up to a group I was with and she said she got into the nursing program. Then she went onto say that she needed to take some extra classes in the summer though. After she left my friend (who hasn't received her letter but is sure she won't get in) says, "Guess how she got in? She put down English as her second language." We're all like, she spoke perfect English. She was born in another country but has been here since she was little. So they pick 60 applicants and another 20 from ESL group and make them take extra classes in the summer. So basically they're only 60 students and not really 80. Yes, this does get me upset. Hopefully no one here is an ESL student. However, it sure go to the most qualified applicants. I am applying for January and I heard they dont' set any seats aside which is good since there's only 20 spots.

Sorry...:smackingf

Wow! I didn't know they did that w/ ESL students. FYI all, I'm not one of those. Not to sound snobbish but, now I'm even more proud of myself for making it in on my own merit.

Kathyz-I have Williams for A&P. She's really good except that we have to do a project in addition to all the other work. It's just hard to get to all of the work sometimes. I have no life and I'm only taking 2 classes. I like Williams and Hutchcraft for the same reason. They are really organized. I need that to keep things straight in my head. They present the information well, although they both are tougher and more particular about they way they grade exams etc.

I also took Samland's CNA course. It was cheaper, faster, and it worked better with my work schedule. It was a tough 5 weeks but it was worth it. The evening teacher (Eva-I think) was hilarious, which made it fun.

Z1234-Good luck, hope you make it. I think my GPA is around 3.6, NLN I was in the low 90s and high 70s on the verbal score.

Those that got waitlisted-chin up! You all sound like you were very close, try to beat your last score on the NLN and I bet you'll make it next time around! At least now we can retake it every 6 months.

Dex77- I got wait listed # 8 , so close yet so far away!!!!:uhoh3:

Will hope for the best!!!!

Congratulations again !!!!!:smiley_aa

Kathy-That is horrible but I believe it. OCC is really annoying me with their "selection" process.

Koolaid is right, failing the NLN would have been better!

So annoying! :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

Dex, you are the first person I've ever heard of that likes Hutchcraft. I can't tell you how many people I've run into that have dropped her class or received a D or F. Good for you!

Are you taking any summer classes before the program starts?

Does anyone know how many people get waitlisted? I e-mailed one of the advisors and she gave me some hope. She said that in the past 2 years my number on the waitlist has gotten in but there was no guarantee. I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best. Good luck to everyone who's waiting & let's all keep each other posted for any good news!

KoolAid Drinker- I'm not sure exactly how many people get waitlisted but I know a girl in my pharmacology class who was wait listed at 50!!!!Why, I don't know! It's seems ridicoulus to be waitlisted at 50 , do they really think that 50 people are going to drop out?I'm wait listed at # 8, I'll keep my fingers crossed for the both of us :)

Z1234- Wow... I didn't know they would extend the waitlist to 50. Good luck to you and Paula7. I have a feeling that we will get in, let's just hope! If not, there's always hope for getting in for spring. ;)

Is anyone taking any summer classes?

KoolAidDrinker- Thanks, I am hoping all that deserve it do get in!!!I am taking Anatomy 132 in the summer and Nursing Informatics! How about you?Are u taking summer school? What classes are u taking now?

I might take Math 102 in the summer. I'm not taking any classes right now- although maybe I should have. They say it increases your chances of getting in. Well, atleast I know what I can do if I apply next year. Is anyone else going to apply to other programs?

Specializes in Not specified.

Do you know if there is a timeframe in which one has to take the NLN for Oakton? I took it in 2002 and got a raw composite score of 124, 89%. I was thinking about applying to Oakton with this score.

Romie- I think the NLN is good for a 2 year span, but the best thing to do would be to talk to a nursing adviser at OCC!That score though is great!!!
