Is there anyone who thinks school is not that bad?

Published

All I see, hear and read are negative things about nursing school. From endless hours of studying, never seeing your children, broken relationships, instructors that fail you the last week of school...and it goes on.

Is there anyone who is finished or almost finished who thinks it is not that bad. Not the hell it is made out to be.

I would love to hear some good news instead of gloom and doom!!!!

My favorite books that I found most helpful were the "sucess" books. Their is Fundamentals for Success, Med/Surge Success and also Nclex RN questions and answers made incredibly easy I have really liked.

I have DOZENS of different books and these were my most favorite. The success one breaks each category down into topics, so in the Neuro Section it will be further broken down into TIA, CVA, Hemorrhage and so on. Then with each answer it gave the rationale for why it was right, why the others weren't and a test taking tip.

I saw the test success one today to help u think critically do u know anything about this one?

I love the test success book! I actually just let my girlfriend borrow it as I swear that book is how I'm getting my grades. Every test I take I put a ? mark next to the ones I'm unsure of, my girlfriend does the same and we usually have close to the same amount of ? marks, yet I seem to score a good 10 points above her. So it must be I am just guessing the right answer more than she is. So now that she's reading the book, we can prove if this theory holds water, lol

I haven't seen that one, I have the Fundamentals, Med/Surge, and Maternal and Newborn Success. I tried to get the Pediatric one (since I am in Peds and OB now) but it's not out yet :( Another good one that has a lot of case studies and in fact a lot of our test questions for med Surge were taken from this book is, Prioritization, Delegation Assignment from Mosby

A friend of mine got a really good one that she brings to our study groups as well, I will go look for the name.

I think this is cheaper on Amazon then B&N with the member price you have to check it's been a while since I was looking at the prices on this one

Prentice Hall's Reviews & Rationales: Comprehensive NCLEX-RN® Review (Paperback)

Barnes is pretty expensive with the member price (and you have to pay $25 for that membership!!!) I hear nursing school is expensive as it is...so im trying to save as much as I can....they also have half.com which is a part of ebay which you can find really good deals. Membership at Borders is free and I get 30-40% off coupons almost weekly and evertime you accumulate points you get free $5 which I feel is a way better deal than Barnes...hope this can help anyone :D

I usually go through amazon for everything but since B&N online was offering things at their member price I was getting a few books from that and the free shipping since it was cheaper that route.

To the OP....

It varies for me. My first semester was killer... accelerated Foundations and Pharmacology at the same time along with lab and clinicals almost killed me. My second semester psych class was a breeze but I failed lab although the school allowed me to take a makeup exam and I ended up passing... close call though.

I am loving this semester so far. I am in OB, got a great clinical and lecture teacher and I am doing good so far in lab so I am enjoying school. When I am struggling to get by I hate nursing school cause I don't feel like I belong but I get more confident as my grades improve

I've been in NS since 2006 and will finally have my BSN on May 14th! It has been a long road, and has been difficult at times, but I sincerely do not think it was as bad as I had heard it was before starting.

I started when my kids were 13mo and 2 years old, and worked part-time. I pulled it off and didn't struggle, I just think you need to set your priorities early and have an internal motivation. I think I cared more about my education than some of my peers, and because I valued it more I spent more time and effort in studying and learning. The girls in my class who were constantly having problems in clinical, barely passing tests, and just not getting it were ones who passed along the horror stories. Just my :twocents:

Yeah, thats what I am starting to see. I am a guy and I am started to doubt that most people who fail were targeted for no reason at all. I am shocked and amazed how some people will argue and talk to their professors with such a lack of respect. They were probably raised up in homes where the parents let them get away with murder and now look where it's gotten them.

This is so true..I have experienced this so much in my pre-req classes. The situation usually involves a girl(s) who disagree with the teacher (usually because they are doing bad in the class) and the disrespect the teacher (which I truely feel disguisted when I see somone talk down to someone, especially the teacher) and then they wanna complain how hard the class and the teacher is when it truely isnt.

If you study and do what your supposed to do Im sure you should be fine.
