Is anyone else familiar with this? (sounds too good to be true)

Okay, so my best friend knows a girl who's best friend has been an RN for 10 years now and she brought me up in conversation I guess and told her how I just received my acceptance letter and was excited and how I've been a straight A student and was going to have to quit my current job to start nursing school, etc, etc...

So then the RN lady tells my friend that she can get me a job at the (better) local hospital where shes worked at for 10 years being an orderly, tearing down beds, etc. Thing is, this "job" actually pays $15 an hr, and you can choose to work 1-3 days a week, 8 hour shifts, and its specifically for nursing students and there is a huge list I'm told of people on it, waiting for a position while they're in school. She says she wants to sit down with me sometime and get a few details, like when I'm supposed to start and all that, and that she will simply talk to her boss and get me on the top of the list I guess...

My friend also said that they also can guarantee you a job at that hospital as an RN once I've graduated if I sign a contract with them while I'm in school... I really cannot believe this, it sounds like the MOST perfect situation just fell into my lap and I'm overwhelmed. But if this is really the case, I could not be more grateful and appreciative. Has anyone heard of this type of thing? Do you have the same program/opportunity available to you? Thanks for the feedback! :-)

It may be a valid job, not that high in pay or glamorous . Answering call lights, toileting, bathing, running non stop, vitals, blood draws, etc.

I would ask for more info.

There is a similar one in my area, no idea what the pay is, they call it a student tech. You do have to sign a contract that you will work for them for two years after you graduate.

you better hop on that! lol!

Hi:

If it were me, I would check it out hoping it was true.

Thank you.

I have heard of several such positions, and they are hard to get. I say use your connections and snag that job! But make sure you check the fine print before you sign a contract.

One of the main ways anyone gets a job in my area in a hospital is through connections so hop on that train and don't look back!

It is not unusual for hospitals that suffer from labor shortages to provide significant amounts of support for students in return for a work commitment. I know of several rural facilities that basically offer a 'free ride' to local HS grads that want to become nurses & have two acquaintances whose hospital employers paid 100% for their MSN(NP) education - same deal.

Before you sign anything, be sure to read all of the fine print and ask for clarification on anything you don't understand.

At the school I plan on going to, they've got this deal with the hospital right next door (they're both part of a larger partnership), where you can apply to work at the hospital as a tech (not sure if it's a full-on nurse tech, but just as a student) after your first semester of nursing school. From what I understand, the duties are similar to that of a CNA, but maybe a bit more so. I'm not sure how much it pays, days you work, part/full-time etc., but it's definitely something I plan on looking into when I start, and you should to. It'd be excellent experience I think.

And as for the whole "sign this agreement and you'll have a job with us upon graduation" thing...I have no idea if that's something our school/hospital has worked out either, but if they offer it where you are, then yea, I'd get on that.
