Is advanced patho and pharm a pre-req for adv health assessment?

Published

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to take health assessment with patho and pharm so I can graduate early; however, my advisor said you can't take health assessment without taking patho and pharm first. This is kinda disappointing bc it will mean it'll take more 3-4 years to complete the program (bc of course offerings) :( Any advice on what to do?

Thank you!

Well, it's their rules. There is a sort of progression with Patho-Pharm-and Assessment. In my program, those courses were never offered in the same semester even. I would ask if you could take Patho and Pharm concurrently and if so, will you be allowed to take one of the courses in another institution.

Some schools insist on a certain class progression in order to lengthen the time spent in school for the student; insuring maximum tuition/fee income.

I asked about taking one of those courses at another institution, and they said no :( It really has been a hassle trying to get this program completed.

On a random note, cool blog! I would like to read some of those articles when I have more time.

I really did get the vibe that they try to lengthen class progression as much as possible, and I'm trying to do the opposite because that means extra student fees (more than a thousand dollars each year). They said it's for accreditation purposes though. I just wanna complete the program already even if I have to go to working per diem, my back really can't take bedside nursing anymore.

my program has advanced assessment in the first spring of your program, patho the following fall and pharm the next semester (winter)...i guess each program has their set up!

Usually schools want you to take patho and pharm first then advanced health assessment

I think it depends on the school. Some schools prefer you take patho and pharm first before health assessment. And they are even taken separately. I am not sure why they won't accept transferred credit? Some schools might not accept health assessment but for patho and pharm? That's questionable. I would move up and request to speak to the program director…just to exhaust all avenues. All they need is to make sure school is accredited, pharm is across the lifespan, etc…and if not, i guess that's their rule…But just a caution that taking these three classes together might not be in your best interest. Those are really heavy. So, you might want to give it a big thought. You can even try patho and pharm together if you feel you can handle them (heavy but doable), and plan on assessment later. Good luck..:)

Thanks ICURN7. I wouldn't do all three (Assessment, patho, and pharm) together. I just wanna be able to do patho and health assessment next semester, and pharmacology in the summer. The staff there keeps changing, and I can't seem to get a straight answer out of anyone. I think they're overwhelmed, and just don't wanna deal with someone with special requests. I don't know what to do, it seems like they say no before they even hear my reasons for wanting to graduate early. Any tips on how to communicate better with someone that has made up their mind and doesn't wanna be bothered again? Thank you all for the help and encouragement. Happy Holidays to you all.

I advice u to take the patho and pharma then Health assessment because if u dont do that u will not get benefit , it is ok to graduate late but with benefit and more experience ?

Pharm and patho first since u need rationale for assessment
