Hello all! I just wanted to start a topic for those of us applying to the 2014 ADN program at IRSC. I am so excited to finish my prerequisites and apply! LetsAll compare our application processes and wait to hear back from the program together! My names is Emily and I am taking a&p1 and micro this summer, then taking the NLN in August and submitting my app!
Tell me about yourself !
I got a 138 on the NLN and 32 in class points. I went to the review sessions and it was a pretty good crash course and you received packets that are pretty helpful for studying. I recommend going to sessions for material that you feel will be your worst areas. I brought the practice book but I did not have a lot of time to study. I had maybe 2 weeks and with work and other responsibilities I ended up being to tired to study sometimes. Get the practice book I got the standard one. It's a red book I forget who publishes it. I believe it is through the NLN board. It helped and I definitely feel like if I had studied harder with the practice book I would have had a better score. Good luck to you and I am sure you will be in next semester.
Congrats to everyone who made it in!! I didn't get in (as I suspected due to my total points being 130) but now I know I need to study my butt off & retake it in 6 months & hopefully it'll help me get in. Only thing I can't change which sucks is my "C" in micro lecture which hurts my overall points but I'll just have to make up for it in the nln :) I wish you all the best of luck!! :)
Hey all! I don't think October 11th will ever get here! LOL!! I ran into a current nursing student this evening at Christi's while my daughter was in dance class... she said it's definitely doable with kids! She said that the way they have geared the "new" program is to be flexible and not to overwhelming for students who are also parents and employees... She also said that the online option is a great tool! It made me feel a lot better about the upcoming craziness, so I thought I'd share :)

I got a 148 on the NLN and had 29 in class points. My advice on the NLN: use the practice book! My weakest area before the NLN was math and I did the mini tests in math every night for about a week, which was MUCH needed. I am willing to bet that if I hadn't done that, I would not be in the program as my math skills were quite rusty. I also worked on science out of that book quite a bit, but not as much as math. I compared the answers and just made sure I understood why I got the things wrong that I did. I found the review sessions helpful except for the first one, which just stressed test-taking strategies and the importance of proper preparation. I couldn't go to the last couple, unfortunately but made up for it with studying. The vocab was challenging and is usually my strongest suit, but was my weakest on the NLN. Practice those exams in the book. They help a lot and I heard someone on here talk about how they are very accurate at predicting your real score when you take the test.
