Hey everyone! I know this is super early to be talking about the fall semester but I just got my denial letter for the Spring 2014 semester so I wanted to make this group for anyone that's applying or didn't make it in like me. I got a 109 score on my NLN exam which makes my total points for program 130. I took A&P I & Micro which accounts for my points. I would like to retake the NLN in 6 months & hopefully I can do much better. I'm currently enrolled in A&P II & plan on just studying my butt off for the nln in the process. Classes I have left before I'm done with all my "pre-requisites" are A&P II (which I'm currently in), Chemistry, and Nutrition. (which I plan on taking those in spring/summer). Maybe we can get a study group together eventually if anyone is interested! Best of luck to everyone! :)
Sonny6 Agreed, I'm bringing both the acceptance letter and the attached form. I'm not going to let something so simple kick me out of the program lol my read receipt wasn't working for the second email either. I just clicked it for the first email and hope that it was clear I received both.
jessika1252 My GPA is somewhere between 3.3-3.5. I took both A&P and Micro with labs prior to applying and received A's in all the classes, except Micro lecture (got a B). My NLN score was a 129. My total points for the program was 159 and I am accepted, not an alternate. I'm also 80% finished with my BS in HC Management and work within the HC field, so idk if that has anything to do with it. The McGraw practice NLN book really helped me! I generally do well in math and science, but English/language is my downfall. That's where I lost most my points.
My GPA is a 3.1 and I took both a&p 1 and 2 with labs, and micro with lab. I got A's and B's in those. I went to UCF my freshman year and let me tell you, those classes are no joke and they somewhat hurt my overall GPA. I got an F in college algebra at UCF but then an A when I re-took it at IRSC. I studied the red NLN review book and also went to every NLN study session at the main campus. The reviews didn't help as much as the huge packets they hand out at every review. These packets had WAY more information about all the subjects than just the red book alone. I also took a bunch of the practice tests on the CD that comes with the red NLN book. I had already taken the NLN once which definitely helped because I tend to do much better on tests when I take them more than once (ACT, SAT) I will have my AA after this semester so hopefully not having to take pre-reqs while in the program will help me. Good luck !
Hi Jessika, sorry you didn't get in, but don't give up! I know you'll do better on the NLN the second time around and get in.
To answer your question I have a gpa of 3.78. I also have an Associates in Arts in Nursing from IRSC & a bachelors in Public Health/Health Education and Behavior from the University of Florida (although these don't factor in to the scoring system). My NLN was a 130, and I have 25 points on my prereqs. I did rather poorly on my NLN I thought, but someone on here listed some flash cards that I think would be really useful. I'm not sure which section you scored lower on, but for me personally I could have used a lot more help in my math and verbal.
Best of luck, and hope to see you on campus.

I got a B in A&P I lecture, and A's in A&P Lab, Micro Lecture and Micro Lab. I got a 145 on the NLN. But overall, I think it ultimately comes down to doing well on the NLN. I bought the study manual on Amazon and used the quizlet flash cards. I found them particularly useful with helping to memorize some of the geometry and physics formulas that I had forgotten from school. Try to also pay attention to the section in the study manual where it helps you to derive meanings from words (roots, prefixes, etc.).
In another note, I did not have a "read" link in my email, nor a separate attachment (form). The only attachment my email had was my acceptance letter. Did everyone else have another form and a link?
Does anyone know how many alternates there are? I feel like I'm the only one who got the REAL alternate letter. The one they initially sent had all the info for the previous semesters meeting, so I called to let them know. The lady then sent me the correct email and actually wrote "you have been placed on the alternate list"
anyone else an alternate? And does anyone know how many alternates there were last semester and how many of them got in?? I'm really trying to stay positive and keep my fingers crossed..also trying not to get TOO excited
i thought waiting for the initial letter was bad, but this wait seems like it'll never end!
Acbeisler, same here ! I was used to getting 4.0s in highschool without studying very much so UCF really kicked my butt haha.
SBabs, I emailed Diana camacho and she said it was fine if you don't have the read receipt link. And you should've gotten a form attached to the acceptance letter with questions to check mark & bring to the meeting.

I have GPA of 3.0 and I took anatomy 1 and lab before taking it, but didn't complete micro yet (im enrolled so i didnt get the points) so i got a total of 12 points for that. My NLN score was a 139 for an overall score of a 151. What helped me with the NLN is i had all my prereqs done and am very newly out of highschool (technically i graduate in june this year, dual enrollment FTW) so I was very used to standardized testing and did a lot of tests very similar to the NLN. Also I studied the book a lot. took a lot of practice tests, reviewed the areas i was'nt strong in. For the most part, I had reviewed all of the information in my prereqs, and highschool classes i had before i went dual enrolled, so most of my NLN studying was a review. If i could re do it i would spend more time on the science part. they had a lot of physics and biology and chemistry.
