Intraveneous Tubing changing. how often

Published

Does anyone have any guidelines for how often I.V. tubing needs to be changed?

Thanks

Donna

96 hours for most fluids other than TPN and Intralipids. Most of ours are "off the shelf." Tubings 96 hours as well. This goes for our PICU, as well as NICU.

TPN/Lipids q24h. Drips like dopamine...q24h. All other stuff q72h.

Pleeeezzze!!! Puh-lease let us change to 96 hours!!!!! :chuckle

Specializes in NICU.

Wow, there sure is a big variety of policies out there! Our unit changes solutions, regardless of type, q 24 hours and all tubing q 48 hours (unless a solution changes and then we have to change the tubing at that time) The lipids/tubing come from our pharmacy daily so it's changed daily.
