Interview for long term care facility...

Published

What kinds of question do they ask during the interview, and tell me about your job, do you like it? :)

Do you have a pulse? Is your license current?

Specializes in LTC.

I don't have my license yet, I just graduated on Dec 15th, and yes I have a pulse:D

COngratulations!

Well, we'll start you on days because you need an RN around. Here's the med cart. Okay, enough of orientation. You can come in after you finish the NCLEX, right? We have you on the schedule.

Yep!;):D

Specializes in Geriatrics, WCC.

I usually spend at least an hour for each interview I conduct. I first talk to them about the skills they have such as with an IV, wound vac, bladder scanner, TPN, INR machine, rehab units vs LTC unit. I also find out their background in LTC. I then take them on a building tour and introduce them to the staff that are working, show them resident rooms, the chapel, dining rooms, therapy, etc.

I then take them back to my office and talk some more about what they are looking for such as hours, shifts, number of days per pay period. How do they handle stressful situations? Can they stand up to another person and tell them what they need to do (CNA's)? I then go into explaining about our facility and other services.

If I get a good feel, i will offer a position right then and there. If I don't get a good feel, I will tell them I will get back to them... usually within a 3 day period. And I do get back to them.

Orientation is 2 full days of general in the Ed room and up to a month on the floors. If they need to extend that, that is fine too.
