There is a rumor going around here lately. Somebody just told me that whether you plan to work in NY or some states don't need CGFNS certificate ,you still "must" have the CGFNS certificate when you applying for green card. The people who told me about this had called CGFNS two months ago. She said that this is a new rule for applying for green card. I wonder if everyone have further information about this.

Ps. I don't know if applying for visa screen certificate and green card are the same thing, but I looked into the instruction of visa screen which didn't see any information about this. So I'm confused right now. :uhoh3:

When did the visa screen requirement come into effect? I just recieved my new green card last month

The US government has started the requirement of the visa screen certificate in 1997. Hope this info helps. :)

And for those of you that are going for a change in status or for initial petition, BCIS now wants the Visa Screen Certificate attached to the petition for the processing to even begin. So until that time, you are going to be just waiting and waiting and waiting.......................................

Hi Suzzane,

When does this new policy of the BCIS requiring the attachment of the visa screen certificate took effect? When my agency filed my petition last November, 2003 at California, the lawyer didn't ask me for the certificate.

Thank you. :)

According to the information that I received yesterday, this ruling went into effect last September, but I am not sure who is actually following it closely.

In the Vermont office it would definitely be true because processing is so quickly. I am just trying to remember which site that I saw it on, it was one of the immigration ones. Came up with it when I put "Visa Screen" in a MSN search yesterday while at the office.

I have been telling everyone to apply for the Visa Screen when they submit their other applications since the beginning. Many have never listened and decided that they would do it later, and if they have never taken CGFNS exam, and only NCLEX, it can take quite a while for them to verify everything.

It also takes about four months to receive the certificate once all of the exams are completed. The nurses that are going to have the most trouble are the ones under the TN Visa from Mexico and Canada.

Hi Suzzane,

Regarding the new ruling on visa screen certificate which took effect on September, 2003. An applicant must attached his visa screen certificate when filling for an adjustment of status. This is only applicable to those who are already working in the US under working visas. As for those who are outside the US waiting for the approval of the petition, they only need it to present upon issuance of the visa at the consular office of their country. In our case here in the Philippines, we present the visa screen certificate during the interview at the embassy.

You can visit http://www.usvisanews.com regarding this. :)
