UK move forcing career change

First of all thank you to all the moderators who have advised me on the process of applying to the NMC.

I have an Associates in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in another field and will be moving to the UK by the summer. My husband has a work visa and as his spouse I am "sponsored" and allowed to work there.

However my associates is not recognized by the NMC so they will not allow me to practice as a nurse there. Which is soooo stupid...but that is their choice (rolls eyes:trout:)

My question is, since I have a work permit what should I go do for work over there? Are there any other fields a soon to be "ex-ICU nurse" would be good at?....like pharmaceutical sales, etc?

I want to work so I don't go stir crazy but since I can't be a nurse I am at a loss for a profession :o

Thanks for any brilliant ideas in advance!

Sorry you feel that way but UK nurses wanting to work in the US have to face similar issues.

There are plenty of jobs as a medical rep and one of my best friends was one for years working for various companies. Other type of jobs depends on what you want to do but pay generally isn't good. I would say once settled in the UK there are a few papers which offer job opportunities and most can be found in local news paper shops or supermarkets

Good luck on the move

The nursing press over here often advertise jobs where they state things like "would suit someone with a nursing background". It's usually in medical/pharmacological related sales fields. Check out the "Nursing Times" on-line or the "Nursing Standard."

With the Nursing Times you can register for alerts when the job type you're looking for is advertised (I don't know about the Standard but they may also do the same.)

Specializes in Multiple.

It might be worth doing a search on http://www.jobs.nhs.uk for there are lots of other jobs that a health background will be useful for.

Another site is here http://www.healthjobsuk.com/select_sector

This site http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/ is a national newspaper that advertises jobs

Or reps and the like are to be found in organisations like this one http://www.innovexcareers.com/ and http://www.pharmajobs.co.uk/

Good luck with your job hunting!
