Question for Suzanne

Hi suzanne! I just took the december boards and I'm very short of any information on how to apply for any certification programs in the states. I've been deciding on my preferred state for NCLEX but someone here recommended that I take the CGFNS while waiting. I'm confused before and now it's getting my head spin already. I have so many questions, I hope you can spare some time for me. Thank you very much!

Is passing the local board necessary first? What's the next step for CGFNS? I already have the application form, from the website, should I just print it out? No other special stuff like special ink or paper required? Sorry if it sounds silly. Should my TOR be sent by my school?

How long does the processing for CGFNS take? Should I apply to NCLEX before or after that? I'm planning to choose NM as my state then be endorsed to CA. Is that wise? Where would the exam be? Is the CG exam really harder than the NCLEX? How many questions will it be? As I read, it's more expensive than NCLEX. And does the TOEFL exam comes with CG? Will that be the only english exam? Will it be taken at the same time with the CG?

Do not bother with the CGFNS exam unless it is requird for a state where you wish to work, it is only required now for about five states.

If you took the local exam, then you need to wait for the results. The local exam is not required for working in the US and I actually have been tellng nurses not to take it in the first place.

Location of the exam has nothing to do with the state where you apply for licensure, it is done in a center by Pearson-Vue. Please read the Primer at the top of the this forum for much needed information.

Do not take the CGFNS exam, unless it is required specifically for a state where you wish to work, and now it is only needed in about five states, so I can say the odds are in your favor.

Suggest that you read the Primer on the top of of the International forum, there is much information there for you.

English exams are required for your Visa Screen Certificate, and that is required for your green card, but it does not come with anything else.

HiSuzanne. Is the fee for requesting the BRN to forward the NCLEX result to ICHP/CGFNS still $60?

Additional question is: do I need to submit my primary/elementary school diploma to cgfns as part of the requirements?

Thanks in advance and God bless you.

This is an old thread and she does have a thread specific for asking questions. Information will be on Ca BRN on how much fees are. If they are asking for the certificate then I would send it in, probably would send it in anyway, they may not need it but if they do may cause a delay otherwise they can just ignore it if they have it but don't need it
