hi everyone

i got the response from the nova scotia nursing college and this is what it says..

Dear ***********

The College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (the College) has completed the review of your application for initial registration. In order to determine if your education and experience has provided you with the competencies we expect of a registered nurse working in Nova Scotia we require you to complete a general competence assessment. The Nova Scotia competence assessment is conducted at the Registered Nurses Professional Development Centre (RN-PDC) under the direction of ******** Faculty International Educated Nurse Program. You are responsible for all costs for the competence assessment. For a description of the assessment see the attached Appendix A: Information Sheet – Nursing Competence Assessment.

How do you proceed:

1. Sign and forward to the College the attached Appendix B: Consent for Release of Information;

2. When the College receives the above signed form, we will forward the information outlined in the Consent for Release of Information to the RN-PDC in Halifax, NS;

3. You then contact ********to arrange an appointment. Her telephone number is: ************

4. You then complete the competence assessment at the RN-PDC in Halifax, NS;

5. Following the completion of your competence assessment a report is prepared by the assessor at the RN-PDC and a copy is sent to you and the College. If the College determines, based on the report, that you have gaps in your knowledge, skills or abilities, you will be required to successfully complete remedial education before you can be deemed eligible to write the CRNE or receive a temporary licence.

Time Limit:

You have one year from the date of this letter to complete the competence assessment. If you do not complete the competence assessment within one year your file will be closed. In the event that at any time in that year you inform the College that you do not intend to do the competence assessment your file will be closed upon receipt of the information.

iam so confused...what should i do next?what kind of visa should i apply for?

anyone of help would be appreciated

I think you probably need to be accepted for registration before you can look at a visa, because with out it you won't meet a skilled entry requirement (based on my understanding of the Australian procedure, which isn't that different).

Good luck :)

Basically what they are saying is you need to come to NS for assessment and then a decision will be made to whether you will be granted eligibility to sit CRNE. It is only a couple day assessment process so you only need a tourist visa if applicable to do the assessment. It will take a few weeks/months to get results

A lot will depend on the skills you have and meet assessment by passing, if you need to do some courses time will vary depending on what is required. Best person to check with is the contact they gave you, she is good as I have dealt with her before and replies as soon as she can

Converting from visitor to student can be done inland but it will take a few weeks and you will need a medical before it will be issued. Just check CIC website
