Petition for UK nurse in the State of CA

Hello! I am a newbie and it's very helpful to read your discussions here. I have recently passed the NCLEX and am trying to find a hospital in California to sponsor me. I am not under and agency,am doing it independently. can u advise me on whether it is best to be under an agency or to do it independently? i am finding it hard to apply in the US as most hospitals don't sponsor anymore.

I have a work permit in the UK and will get the Unlimited Leave to Remain in the UK come April. Will it be harder for me to get to the US because of this?

You may need to post a thread in the forum yourself, as this one is for US nurses working overseas.

You may want to try using the word "petition" when talking to facilities instead of "sponsor" as this has less negative images for the employers. An agency can often not guarantee which state you'll end up in.

Having unlimited leave for the UK shouldn't have any impact on US petition but depending on where you are from and born you may be affected by retrogression, Plenty of threads on here regarding retrogression

Thanks anna and augigi for replying. i am a Filipino and has only been here in the UK sice 2002. A couple of aencies advised me to get a tourist visa and apply directly when i get to the US.Other agencies said it is best to wait for the green card but there might be delays due to retrogression. i have started processing my application for visa screen hoping i can get things moving. shall i go for an agency or look for a hospital to petition me? And if i apply for a tourist visa and i have joined an agency at the same time, would i be denied of the tourist visa in view of my application for green card? please help me. thanks

Since you have a temporary work permit for the UK, that means that you are not from there.

Where were you born? Which part of CA do you wish to work in?

Sorry, but those wonderful agencies are giving you horrible information. You are under the retrogression, and that will be in effect for longer than the time on the tourist visa, and if you do nto already have a tourist visa for the US, you will find it hard to get.

Have you completed the English exams? You will need to do that as well.

As far as the tourist visa, you are going to find it hard, period. You must be able to show the reason that you wish to go to the US, and that you have a job still in the UK, etc., waiting for you. It is actually in violation of US immigration law to come to the US with the sole purpose of getting a job and staying when on the tourist visa.

thanks suzanne. I am a Filipino. I guess i will just have to find a hospital to petition me. I will carry on applying online and hopefully get an employer.I will take the IELTS in january and will pro cess the VIsa Screen myself. You are indeed a big help. Have a good day.
