Greetings. I did not take the local board and the CGFNS here in the philippines but i am now applying for the NCLEX and visa screen to become an RN in the US. i dont have a US visa right now so i would be needing a hospital to sponsor me. I hope you could share your experience with your petition if you did the same thing what i did. I did not took the local boards because i am a second courser. would not taking the local boards cause me problems with my petition even if i did pass the nclex and visa screen? thank you

Specializes in geriatric nursing.

local license is not needed. you can be sponsored without it. just pass the nclex and the english exam.

thank you kathykaye. do you know someone who had been petitioned without taking the local board exam and and the agency that she used for her to be petitioned in the US? thank you again

yes kathykaye is right, thats why most FilAms will go here and study Nursing and will go back there to challenge the stateboards.

I have students in the past who have done that, but still its better if you take the Local Boards so that when you come back here, you can practice our beloved profession.

Good Luck to your endevour.....

Thank you Labs cabin. i dont intend to take the local boards here in the philippines. i was alittle bit skeptical because i have done a little bit research over the net and some of the web sites there said that a state license from the country of origin is needed. i am still here in the philippines and i am applying for the nclex and visa screen. i hope you cold recommend me to a good agency who can help me regarding my petition to the us. tnx

For the one millionth time, local boards are not required for working in the US. Period.

The US does not require them to work in the US. If you are required to take the CGFNS exam for the state that you will be working in, then local license is required for that, and that purpose only. It is not required for immigration and that is what matters.

There are hundreds here, and perhaps even in the thousands that did not take the local license because they never intend to work in the Philippines.

And we are not posting agencies here.

And for the websites that say that you need it, shame on them.
